I read an interview with Charlie in a little newspaper of Austria today: it was about Elvis, he said he did not like him, about the Beatles, he did not like them except Ringo, and then he said the Stones plan to tour 2010/11.

Marianne alwas likes to present Mick as if he had not read one book before he met her.I don´t know which love song is about her, but i don´t think she could teach him something about music or history, he was already a member of the history debating club in his school, so interest was there before Marianne. And i think her influence on SFTD was only to have lend him a book. Did i say already th

How did Mick profit from her talent? According to Mick, she wrote some lines to Sister Morphine, what other contributions did she make?

who knows what Mick´s expectations (and motivations) had been. He had good chart positions and record sales, better and more than Keith btw. I would not call Keith´s solo career a fiasco either. But this is a neverending discussion, whenever somebody brings up "solo career".

why is it better to play the blues for 50 years? Let Mick do whatever he wants to do, he does not have to please anybody - what he would, if he did what people demand or expect from him.

Quoteneptune It seems that many people here are having trouble accepting the truth, that Mick and Keith DID NOT form the Rolling Stones. If it wasn't for Brian Jones, Mick would have gone off to the LSE and Keith to jail or the stockyards. But what, if Brian had not met Mick and Keith? It wouldn´t be the Rolling Stones. Imo Brian did not give us the Rolling Stones, it would have b

Mick did never say, that he does not like it. He only said, that he would like to remix it, that´s all.

I think he admitted, that on SOME songs he only added pieces of lyrics. And he said, that usually the melody comes when the singer starts to sing. why shouldn´t we see Mick as the main lyricist in the 60s? Do we KNOW, which pieces of lyrics Keith wrote, and which Mick?

Quotewith sssoul but ... Mick singing on it doesn't mean Keith wasn't the main songwriter (i started to say "especially in the early days", but it's true all down the line, really: Keith has always written stuff for Mick to sing, as well as stuff to sing himself.) (for the sake of Equal Time, it can be fun to ponder whether Mick's written any numbers for

Quotemtaylor Just wonder how many other languages he speaks (here I don't think about some consert phrases), but can communicate with onter people in a longer conversation. Some time ago an interview was posted here with Mick, Andy Warhol and somebody else. It was more a conversation. Mick was asked, if he speakes spanish, and he answered: "a little bit". That was in the early 8

I never liked his adult voice. Yesterday they showed a Jackson concert on german television and I tried to find out why he is called a genius. His voice was very flat, there was no melody, no good music, only his moves were worth watching. But yes, the world surly lost an icon.

QuoteLightnin' You're right about that MCDDTLC, it's still an enormous source of discontent for Taylor and at times he gets very bitter about not getting paid a penny for the work he's most widely recognised for (by the fans, at least). This is also why it can be such a drag for him to get people coming up to him everywhere he goes with Stones CD's that they want his aut

I think we can discuss the importance or qualitiy of albums after album xy, though I don´t see THAT much of a decline like others do, but that does not take any greatness away from the previous ones. So I think, that he did write some not so good songs, like every other artist did in a career, that lasted that long, should not be a reason, to rate his songwriting generally as mediocre. Or does i

Quoteablett There is some legality issues to look into before Metal Detecting, trespass etc. but they are easy to find. My kids have a small detector and its quite good fun when walking in the woods. I don´t understand why some find that embarrassing. When one is interested in history or/and archeology it can be exiting to find items which can usually only be seen in museums. I am interested

oh, that is a thread for me! thank you! I think it is true what Doxa said. I often think it is a shame how much Mick gets underrated among Stones-fans. Many believe that Keith is the true talent, while Mick is only interested in making money. It seems to be impossible, to be able to do both - organizing and writing songs. He wrote half of all songs, if not more, not only for the last 20 yea

I saw the Jay Leno interview with Eric Clapton. Clapton talked about his son, how only a few days before his death he started to feel like a father to him, and that he was working on that song, when his son died. It was not written for or about him, but it happened to be a perfect song for his son´s death.

Quotesweet neo con Other than Math & Science textbooks....it's pretty difficult to find a book that is completely objective. Of course this type of book is going to be subjective. How is that a "problem"? you are right. We all know, that it is all subjective. I just think, that we are sometimes a bit quick in making facts out of somebody´s opinion.

the problem I have with such books is, that they are very subjective. There is not something like "the truth" out there, only opinions.
