Wow -- that's weird! I was just listening to Bare Trees yesterday, after not hearing it for awhile. Something in the air/zeitgeist that made Bare Trees pop up? How great to be able to talk about it here on IORR. here's no good recording of the album on YouTube (the one that's there is speeded up), I made a playlist using individual songs someone remastered very well: Fleetwoo

I adored this guy from his book on LA Punk. Didn't read the Jagger book. This Salon article really resonated with me when it came out, and does now too. So much goodness, funniness, truth, vulnerability, questioning, self-knowledge and -deprecation, awesome musical/cultural references - RIP. QuoteBluzDude....it's "Bill Haley and HIS Comets" ,,,,but a lot of mistakes have been made on articles and even record labels,,,,, Good catch, BluzDude! But regardless of spelling, any idea of what this recording is? As said above it isn't the Top 40 recording of Bill Hailey (et al.) -swiss

QuoteDeltics Well it would seem that Brian nearly didn't make that edition of Ready Steady Go either. Deltics, thank you for sharing these newspaper clips. Holy shit! The second Record Mirror story (11/21/64) indicates when Brian was in Chicago's Passovane(sic) Hospital (it's Passavant Memorial Hospital), he had a fever of 105°-- for adults, temperatures of 103°-104° are cons

Thanks for your thoughts. QuoteRockman Sounds like Bill Haley ..... QuoteCristiano Radtke It does sounds like Bill Haley but I'm not sure it's him singing. For comparison here's a 1974 live version recorded at the Wheeltappers & Shunters Social Club TV series: I agree with you guys that it sounds more like Bill Hailey than it does anyone else I've found. hello! I'm wondering--what's your take on this? This weekend I watched the movie "Clue" from 1985 (first time--pretty cute), and this version of Shake, Rattle and Roll played under the credits. It's fantastic. But I can't figure out who it is! "Clue" credits version The film credits simply lists song and writer (Charles Calhoun aka Jesse Stone) b

wonderboy, I've always found the "shy boy" comment puzzling - I've never heard Jimmy Page described that way, and there is nothing about him that suggests that he is or was. It's meant ironically, but not sure where it comes from, because I also have not heard that he's particularly bombastic. But, yes, Keith was a shy boy. Or at least introverted and without the soc

QuoteHankM The real question- Is "friend" the correct term, and if so, are they still "friends"? We know that's not the case -- Anita's been asked, hasn't she? as has Marlon. Marlon's response, iirc, was to the effect it must have been some hanger-on. Every time I see this thread pop up I think "oooh, maybe the mystery's been solved!"

QuoteGasLightStreet Yes - the thing to do is to go on the telly and let everyone know that you're sick , like some little child, and to let everyone know that you don't work as much as the rest of The Rolling Stones so you don't need a break. Not sure what you mean, GLS? Quotewonderboy - I've known many addicts and in the end, what happened to Brian is just what happens.

Redhotcarpet, Really interesting about Jimmy Miller, songwriting, arranging, borrowing from other songs. Also the observation that Brian might have been trying to be too purely original. What do you mean by this...? QuoteRedhotcarpet He reminds me of Cobain and his biggest fan, Jim Morrison. - swiss

Just saw this tonight. It's airing for the next month on the Starz network. I thought it was extraordinary. It's a complex tale--would be tough to make a documentary on this "topic" with conventional narrative and, fittingly, the narrative is not at all conventional. It's complex and full of people, stories, shifting sands, wonderful music across an array of genre

I've been doing a deep dive into the Allman Brothers the past couple of months--reading and listening. So sad to hear this news....and I'm thinking while it's tempting it's also probably a pretty good rule of thumb not to speculate too much or to project very far into someone's financial situation, assets/debt, other life pressures, relationship to substances or the toll
