Interesting thread Did anyone mention Exile in Guyville- L Phair I glad Keith Richards Blues was mentioned- great Patti Smith song from a live concert circa 1979 What about expanding the thread to the way the stones and other musicians reference each other in songs on more personal level? I’m thinking of Otis Redding’s version of Satisfaction with horns which could be seen as a black America

I watched Paris Olympia (four Flicks) for the first time in about one year and rediscoved GTAGG.I saw the Stones in 81 doing GTAGG in St Louis. Also have other boots from that tour. I just want to throw out the question- what is your fav version of this song live?

Keith and Ronnie look the worst. Keith much more so, I thnik, becuase we all have the iconic images of him circa 72 in our mind when he was the quintessetial, romantic, charismatic R-N-R figure.Mick doesnt look great but he pulls it off- diet, exercise, plastic surgery?, and self depreciation- let him age somewhat gracefully. Hands down, the real winner is charlie. Since around '75 he cut hi

There are certain qualities I always appreciate in stones songs. 1 they can grab a listener in the first few seconds with raw power that is really unique and astounding. Think about JJF, how the down beat +Mick’s “ watch it”+the riff, grabs you by the throat. Same for BS, IORR, Happy, etc. Two seconds into the song, your heartbeat shoots up. But on ER, there really isn’t any song that achi

they've been good times... they've been bad times.... Saw SAL in IMAX theater when it came out. Looking back, my impressions: The Stones and martin scorsese go way back. I give credit to the idea of a filming a small club gig with innovative set list, but personally I just think that SAL was vicitim to two egos-Mick and Martin agreeing to do a film, and for logistic, scheduling is

I think it's always hard to evaluate a new stones album/disc when it comes out. It brought it with me on a road trip last week; first time I listened to it in awhile. My impressions: Driving to fast- best song, really the only song that sounds new or "fresh" Laugh, I nearly died- really nice ballad- reminds me of Worried About You. Drum sounds seem too "programed" o

I love this song. it's got THE GROOVE, MAN. handclaps, piano, vocal dynamics. just goes to prove that a song considered average by stones standards is still a great song. I love the camp-on stage with Preston and in lyrics: looking for me high and low like a mustard for a ham!!!! only mick could get away with writing that!

three possibilities a. scorsese gets a multimillion dollar grant to work at Lucas special effects studio and remasters every existing stones piece of archival film in HI-DEF 3d surround sound with select a stone feature. you can choose to see Dead Flowers from Leeds from Charlie's point of view for example.Of course, scorsese's integrity requires a "balanced" "unbiase

agree with all superlatives above. this was my favorite "unreleased" stones find in a long long time.it should have been on SW. Going to Memphis is another Mid 80's gem that never made an album release.

some thoughts about the Beatles and Stones: the beatles will always be more popular than the stones becuase as a listerner you have to work harder to appreciate the stones. the beatles had an amazing talent for harmony, melody and well crafted songs. likewise a keen sense of experimentation, they evolved musically in ways the stones didnt. the stones kept going back to the roots and fusing

I agree with WBL on the filler and crap on recent albums, VL, BTB, BB. the albums could have been better edited and there's enough out-take material and b sides to make a really strong album. However I make a distinction between the filler songs and the crap songs. the crap songs are songs which sound FORCED eg- indian girl, sweethearts together, cherry Oh baby etc. and these I really dont l

this is essentially speculation and wishfull thinking on my part but lets first consider the facts 1. Shine a Light has been postponed for release until april 2008. 2. the film is slated to play on the IMAX screen. consider this scenario-- the beacon show was a less that stellar performace as discussed here on various boards specifically the need for overdubs. its one thing to overdub on

IMHO its definately Keith on Rhythm and OD Solo on the London Years cut as well as 40 Licks. A classic Keith signature solo - midtempo, deliberate, string bending. Also remember that in Hyde Park, the first time HTW was played live, Keith has the solo. Later during 69 tour Taylor adds the speeded up more "flowerly" solo at the end of the song.

Thanks for the links LAFORUM. I have this on CD but have never seen any of the song clips. IT's good to see Keith playing some strong and raunchy rhythm guitar. Do you have any links for Shame and Crazy Mama?

I think the stones generally play a more bluesy set in the US than they do in Europe. Look at 72 US tour compared to 73 Europe. they've been doing the same fomula since then. We Had BOMH in the US on BB tour.
