ONCE THERE WAS THIS ROCK N' ROLL BAND ROLLIN' ON THE STREETS TIME WENT BY AND IT BECAME A JOKE WE JUST NEEDED MORE AND MORE FULFILLING... UH-HUH TIME WENT BY AND IT ALL WENT UP IN SMOKE
Interesting thread Did anyone mention Exile in Guyville- L Phair I glad Keith Richards Blues was mentioned- great Patti Smith song from a live concert circa 1979 What about expanding the thread to the way the stones and other musicians reference each other in songs on more personal level? I’m thinking of Otis Redding’s version of Satisfaction with horns which could be seen as a black American musician referencing the stones who at the time almost exclusively did covers of black American musicians. To make things more interesting, listen to Stones Satisfaction from Live at Leads- stones doing Otis doing stones. In the same vein, think about Sister Morphine. I always thought of SM as a very personal autobiographic song, first released by the Stones. But we know that Marianne Faithfull co wrote some lines. MF singing SM seems to be a very personal take on struggling to stay alive caught in the stones’ sway. I know this is slightly OT and some conjecture on my part but can anyone fill me in on the background of let it be/let it bleed and Marianne’s song Why’d ya do it? From Broken English?
