I would suggest a steel string acoustic to begin with. You'll need to learn basic chords and develop your right hand technique (strumming with a plectrum, possibly finger picking). That in itself can be a lifelong journey. Start off in standard tuning. If you decide to move to electric you'll have a better technique from having learned on acoustic. Don't be diverted by open tun

QuoteKoen QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteKoen I saw her a long time ago when Doug Pettibone was her guitarist. He could create magical sounds. He is back, isn’t he? I have no idea. But that would be exciting! Doug Pettibone and Marc Ford gel well on this tour. Doug plays most of the lead work with Marc mainly letting rip on blues based progressions. Was particularly impressed by Doug's

Great band. Never managed to catch them back in the day, although saw Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson in 1975. Have seen Ian many times since and also two Mott the Hoople reunion tours, the last of which, just before lockdown, was sublime. Ian Hunter's a big Stones fan. Check out where the title Sticky Fingers originated...

BV, I can only echo what has already been said. A long time lurker, I finally joined 18 years ago. I still have a copy or two of the original magazine too. This is a great site for information exchange, opinions and rumours. Apart from entertainment and gaining knowledge, I've found it particularly valuable with regard to ticket sales, pre and post show meet ups, etc. I've met some

Yes, her technique is impeccable. Her covers of classic country blues are wonderful and she's definitely one to watch as her skills further develop.

My postie (mailman) was listening to it this week whilst making his deliveries. Told me he was really enjoying it. I'm guessing he knows I'm a fan by the t shirts I've worn answering the door to him over the past few years.

Love Wild Horses, love bluegrass. Huge respect for Leon Russell, but this just doesn't work for me - didn't even make it to the chorus.

Quotekovach I saw him too with Junior Wells, Koko Taylor, BB King and Lonnie Brooks. He was all about the business of playing awesome guitar and while I already heard of stories and was excited to see him it surpassed all expectations. He did get a little goofier as time went on , not sure why, but sometimes only showed flashes of that brilliance. Either way, he's the last living blue

Quoterbk You never know which Buddy you're going to get. There's the force of nature, hurricane of blistering six-string fire, focused and ferocious Buddy "M-ther F-ck-ng" Guy... OR There can be Attention Deficit Buddy who stops and starts songs, forgets what he's saying (or playing), meanders all over the stage and venue acting a bit goofy and, while entertaining,

QuotePaddy Just saw Kingfish Ingram is supporting him on some dates, I’m going to see him in July and looking forward to it. He just has it, what ever that it is. He's great live. Saw him last October after missing him at Hyde Park (he played, but not on the main stage). Enjoyed the gig more than I expected. He delivers.

Quotekeefriffhards QuoteStoneage QuoteKoen Quotekeefriffhards What is puzzling is why hasn't Mick had surgery Maybe he did, but it wasn't made public. That is the problem. If they withhold information there is always going to be speculation. He's been seen out and about, no signs that he's been recovering on crutches etc Mick Jagger would never give anyone the opportu

It was a cracker. Had read about the T birds and how much Muddy liked them. They came onstage to an audience of about eight people. Kim Wilson wore a turban, Jimmy Vaughan was coolness personified and what a beautiful noise they made. Ran downstairs to the bar between songs to let pals know what they were missing. A buzz went round and the hall started to fill. It was rammed for Rockpile who di

Saw Rockpile do a warm-up gig for a national tour. It was in a student union around the late seventies. Very tight band and enjoyable gig. The support act was the Fabulous Thunderbirds who were of an even higher calibre and I instantly became a fan for life.

They may tour next year or they may not. They may surprise us with a special show or two. They don't owe us anything. I'm not really expecting to see them again, but who knows? One thing's for sure - it's been a blast all the way.

Twenty something. First in Glasgow 1976, most recent was Hyde Park 2 in 2022. Apart from shows in Scotland, there were loads in London (including the Astoria), three in Paris (wonderful city) and one each in Rotterdam and Den Haag. Knebworth was also a highlight. Will I ever see them again? Don't know, don't really care - it's been a fantastic journey and they don't owe us

The classic Skynyrd lineup was ferociously good live. I saw them at what I think was their first UK live appearance supporting Golden Earring (14th November 1974) and went on to see them a further three times before the plane crash, including Knebworth. They were fantastic at Knebworth in the afternoon sun. It was like a different show when the Stones came on in what felt like the middle of th

Was at the first night at the Apollo in 76 - my first Stones show. Had to "borrow" money for my mother to purchase a postal order (remember them?) for a postal application for a single ticket many months before the show. In the event, got a ticket for a box overlooking the stage - perfect view.

QuoteDavie137 QuoteMelBelli QuoteDavie137 I see that these harmonicas come in different keys, knowing absolutely nothing about the harmonica does anyone know if Mick tends to use the same ‘key’ in a lot of the classic tracks? I wouldn’t mind trying to learn I’m hardly an expert, but I’m pretty sure Mick plays “cross harp,” like most blues players. So if you’re playing Midnight Rambler in B, for
