Quotedcba What I fail to understand is why Parr felt the need to diss Millard. When he was in L.A. he met the West Coast taper and years after, on the TTD forum all he could remember is that Millard was "a mess". To be fair, Mike Millard probably was a mess. His mental issues, for lack of a better term, have been well documented over the years. Not, mind ya, that given some of his own t

QuoteErik_Snow Quoteloveyoulive75 get them old Freezer recordings over at Dime and Trader's Den. Some good stuff there, for sure. Get it while it's hot. Yes, the late Mr Parr didn't share out all his goodies...as Miles would say, so what? Let's be grateful for what we DO have from his collection and leave it at that, shall we? We might have only got a smidge of Freezer'

Quotedcba Imho Millard's legacy will be far stronger than Freezer's... unless someone starts a "Parr tapes" torrent program at Dime. I guess I just did...and over at Trader's Den as well. Put up my whole Freezer collection, I reckon, except for the stuff that's not allowed (e.g. Allman Brothers). If anybody has others I don't have, well, bring 'em on! Re

Quoteandrews27 There are quite a few good 1970s Louisiana recordings upped on Dime by Nightfly recently: Clapton, The Who, Yes, Bowie, Elton, more. Is Freezer's Delight in StonesVault? I'm Nightfly, and it's been my pleasure re-upping them old Freezer recordings over at Dime and Trader's Den. Some good stuff there, for sure. Get it while it's hot. Yes, the late Mr P

Sony Sound Forge 8 (re-EQ'd, speed corrected and re-channeled original WAV files) ... Many thanks and kudos to original uploader!

As much as I admire Robert's determination to forge ahead and generally not fall back on past glories, he's had the proverbial feet of clay as much as anybody. His first three post-Zep albums moved on from Zep's heavy blues rock, but with diminishing returns. At that point he started recycling Zeppelin motifs in his music, even bringing in Page to play a few solos. When it suits hi

QuoteStonesTod Quoteloveyoulive75 Robbie knew that if they'd've carried on something bad would have happened, and sure enough in 1986 it did in the form of Levon and Rick finding Richard Manuel hanging from his shower curtain rod whilst on tour. If not for The Last Waltz it could have easily been in 1979 or something and Robbie himself making the grisly discovery. a rather curious co

Quotemickscarey Too bad he holds grudges Actually, I'd say it's Levon who holds the grudge, not Robbie. I read Levon's book; methinks he tried to give himself a bit too much credit for The Band in there. How many songs has Levon Helm written? Not too many- I'm sure if he had even a hint of the songwriting talent Robbie Robertson and Richard Manuel had he would have gotten a

Quotebrianwalker I guess I am not allowed to post anything about Lennon that people consider negative. That makes one a troll. I had a thread delated. So I will go with the flow. Here it goes. Blah blah blah... Idiot. Sorry, pal, but where do you get off posting this kind of blather here? You may not be a Lennon fan, fine, then stay out of the bleedin' discussion! Sure, John Lennon

Quotecc how can stuff recorded one summer just for the hell of it be called "filler"? This is true...with all the exposure the Basement Tapes have gotten over the years, it's worth pointing out that WE we never meant to hear any of 'em...and most likely if not for Great White Wonder we probably never would have. Dylan and the boys were just screwing around, as far as they we

Quotedcba I just got the track from Dime. Do you want me to upload it? It's pretty interesting : RW takes the 2nd solo then the song evolves into a free-form funky jam with call-and-response between the 2 axemen. You can't help but feel Page behaves like a true gentleman as he really downplays his playing skills to match Ronnie's Oh, I dunno...I believe Page had already emba

As with any sort of 'archival' project, we probably won't see a definitive official Basement Tapes release until after Dylan, Robertson, etc are long gone. Rob Fraboni and Joel Bernstein would be the guys to do it IMO. Till then, "Tree With Roots" will do me just fine. Compared to just about any of the boots the 1975 release is an atrocity...the mono mix and overdubs were

IMO unfortunately I think the time for a Stones "comeback" has passed. Sadly, the masses don't give a f--k anymore; the Stones aren't the latest Pro Tunes, cookie-cutter Pop Tart CRAP that passes for popular music these days...I'd hate to see them do some kind of pathetic pandering to the kids or something like that (A Jagger/Justin Beiber duet, for instance...yuck!). Quotebustedtrousers Quote71Tele Look, I want to be careful how I say this. The man lost a child. That is a horrible thing to go through. His pain is real and I can only imagine it. But here is an example of KR's total self-absorption. It's all about him and his loss. He leaves his newborn baby with a woman who is an out of control manic junkie (which he talks about on the very same page

Along with "Exile", "Black And Blue" is probably my favourite Stones album; certainly those seem to be the ones I listen to most. That said, I could take or leave "Cherry" and "Fool To Cry" (I made a CDR one time replacing them with "Slave" and "Worried About You"...try it; works pretty good as an album that way!) Either way, "Black

IMO bashers like John Bonham or Keith Moon are dime a dozen, but there is only one Charlie Watts. Everything he does he does with a lot of style and class, which is sadly more than I can say for about 95% of the drummers out there. The Stones wouldn't be "The Stones" without him. Anybody who derides Charlie's style as "boring" is missing the point. I mean, I like

I'll take MT's "Sway" solo over "Time Waits..." anyday, but my personal favourite studio solo of his has always been the one in "Winter". One of the most beautiful things I have ever heard in my life. I don't really consider myself to be a very emotional kinda guy, but the first time I actually listened to "Winter" I started tearing up. Aweso

What the Stones need in a producer IMO is someone with the balls to actually stand up to them -specifically the songwriters- and say, "Sorry guys, that's not good enough. Try again." I think of the old anecdote about Paul McCartney getting George Martin to produce "Tug Of War". Apparently one of Macca's aides or whomever told Martin Paul had a dozen songs...Martin ju

Greatest bass guitar line in a Stones song ever IMO! (Sorry Bill...Mick T gets all the glory on this one, and deservedly so) Excellent song all around, best track on the album...I'd love to see 'em dust this one off for the next tour. Won't happen, probably, but it's nice to dream.

Quotetrainarollin Open letter to the Don Was haters: Send your studio credits to the Rolling Stones and why you should produce their next project. Be sure to attach some samples. What he said.
