Actually it is true....MP3s are 1/10 the size of Flac/Wav/Shn files....you don't realize how much music you lose when you compress the files that much! Also, flac/wav/shn files are much better for buring to CDs...in terms of quality, it's not even close...my opinion is, if you want to MP3s, convert them yourself.....don't permenantly ruin it for those who want the quality....

kream, my Dear friend from Dime - I'm sure you know what you're talking about !! many peoples ears can't hear above 16khz (or even below that point) but I CAN and I'd rather have a flac-file whenever I can instead of a lossy MP3. it's not funny to get reduced MP3-files because of people who think "I can't hear it so nobody else can".

to each his own and like somebody else pointed out - flac or wave (!) - and if necessary you and me and all the others will make their very own MP3s for personal use (and I will by the way as I put this stuff on my iPod to be able to listen to in office).

Cheers

yes, i'm sure. you can hear different but only on your PC screen smiling smiley to see different you have to use some PC applications, not your ears. whithout those applications you never know what you are listening smiling smiley
it's very funny what you and others flack lovers talk about grinning smiley
i don't believe you and others flac lovers
from many many years i'm not naive smiling smiley
but it's ok that you believe in what you are talking, even it's not true smiling smiley

Rocksoff: oma is the raw file off your minidisc recorder. It CAN be converted, but only by YOU. No one has hacked Sony's copyright protection on Atrac3 and until they do the only way to play that file is on the original computer where it was uploaded, which is your pc. Very nice of you to share the raw file though!! Usually it would work just fine but its Sony's encoding and copyright protection that wont allow anyone else in the world to hear it.

kream: dude... mp3 in INFERIOR to flac/wav/lossless formats in all ways possible. It does infact degrade the quality whereas wavs can be burned to a cd, ripped to wav, burned to a cd, ripped to wav, and so on and so on, and the quality will NEVER degrade. However, ripping to mp3, then burning to a cd, only to later have it ripped to mp3 by someone uploading a boot means that it was encoded twice, which is HORRIBLE. People have tried to pass of flac to me as if it was lossless and once I played them a true original copy they understood why I thought their version was NOT original but mp3.

The compression is very real.

You may not be able to tell the difference in quality, but those of us with sonic hearing are really bothered by it. Even mp3s ripped at 320 degrade the audio from the original quality.

Mp3 does the following:
- It compresses the overall audio so that much of the dynamics are gone.
- After loud bass spots the detail in the music is reduced because the average listener can't tell the difference.
- The detail in the high end spectrum is taken away. Listen to the cymbols and you'll hear a 'swishing' sound as opposed to a nice crash like on cd or vinyl.
- Ambience and stereo affect are greatly reduced. This is even worse when someone rips to mp3 as joint-stereo, which is extremely common.

If you can't tell the difference between a compressed format and a lossless audio then you are truly blessed. As for the rest of us, lossless rocks. And with my entire music collection in lossless format I can listen to it in 24bit, as pure as the day it was recorded, no matter what the source is.

I'm not raggin on you, just defending the format you were bashing.
BTW, it has NOTHING to do with what application you use.
Lossless is lossless regardless of whether your listening to it on a cd or your computer.

you lost your time. i don't speak english so good like yousmiling smiley i won't try to translate your words. and i don't want talk anymore and anytime about flac files. this is you problem and problem of rest flac/wav/shn/ape etc...lovers. you all flac lovers always talk the same because you all think that you are like your PC. it's not serious. i don't need any spectrum analyser or other application to listen the music. if you need them this is your problem. sorry but i like music too much, and i listen it from over 40 years that when i'm reading flaclover's words it make me sad because you all are like ET and i don't want to meet ET on Earth

except ALF of course smiling smiley

over

That may have been the most ridiculous comment I have ever read...From what I could undertsand and make out....

Hey genius, the reason we like flac etc. so much better is because we love music and don't want to lose any of it. So don't say that you love music in hopes that it will further prove your point.

You need SONY'S Sonic Stage version 3.4 or later. This is shipped with the new SONY MZ-RH1 HI-MD field recorder. Yuo can also download a copy of 3.4 or later from SONY's website. This allows unlimited uploading and no copy restrictions. If you record HI-MD to CD you can also upload a recording to Sonic Stage and then do post production editting.

drake wrote:
I'm searching for a converter program that doesn't depend on sonic stage but I seriously have never found one. When you upload a recording from Hi-MD (I dont know if other md formats do the same thing) you are only allowed to upload it once. Then the disc write-protects itself against future uploads. Meaning that if you ever loose it you have to go upload it on the identical computer as before, or run it through manually via a line in, which degrades the quality. Not fun.

I want to hear She Was Hot from this show. So I'll download it and see how it comes out. Just because I prefer wav/flac doesn't mean I can't enjoy mp3. It just means I wont keep them in my collection. For me there's no point.

Is any of this childish bickering really necessary. I think not. To each his own. It's a big ass world of music out there and I would think there is plenty of room for all. Can't we just play nice? Personally I accept any and all posts in the good spirit they are indended and then take what I want and leave the rest. Seems simple enough.

but then why the hell do you download nearly every single upload of mine on DaD ??? I never had any problems with the fact that you and a few others takes the stuff there, convert it to MP3 and finally make yourself important over here. I thought it's ok cause many people are satisfied with it. I'd never come to the conclusion that somebody who likes MP3s has better or worse ears then me, you do. and honey, I never view my flac-files, Im not viewing my wav-files normally, I play them on my HiFi which is in any case nearer to the High-End than to the Low-End. And I hear what I hear POINT

I find it hard to believe that you're really a grown-up person, honestly!

As I'm not ALF I'm sure you'll understand if I ask you in a friendly manner to stay away from my torrents on Dime in future - don't wanna meet your personally or electronically anymore, thanks :-)

Cheers

if you call me "honey" you have to be a gay. i'm not young, heterosexual man and it is not a problem for me, but what about you? are you looking for a partner?

I find it hard to believe that you're person with sense of humour, honestly!

and i think this is your biggest problem, not that you hear more than rest ordinary people

btw. "the rolling steones" take 11-12 place in my private band ranking so you can easy understand that i can live without your files. i dld it more for my friends than for me
