Sam Cooke. The man who invented soul
Sonny Rollins + 4 (especially for Clifford Brown!!)
James Brown. Motherlode

welll... no Rolling Stones on my island... but it's a tough choice.

Tough call here.

It says '7 albums' not seven Stones albums, so and in no particular order;

Live at the Fillmore - Allman Brothers
Brussels Affair - Stones (1973)
At least one of 'Up to Here,' 'Road Apples,' 'Fully Completely' or 'Day For Night' - by The Tragically Hip
Exile On Mainstreet - Stones
Self made Dan Baird compilation CD
Who's Next - The Who
Blue Rodeo - Five Days in July

Would you actually have electricity on a island to play the albums?

@ DrPete
Would you actually have electricity on a island to play the albums?

No i just want to watch them
but i'm wanderin' if i'll could
because on an island
you have not the time to watch something
you have just the time to sleep and swim

@sonic
What if you could take only one?
Let it bleed

what happened to them after that????
nothing

I' m happy to see that all of us have not the same list, I prefer
it's more fun

Thanx to all

''Road Apples and Up To Here...damn good records...what happened to them after that????''

-----

well, I think that they changed ... and they stayed the same

'Fully Completely' and 'Day For Night' are also damn good records; so is much of their output afterwards until this day

In fact, I'd put the Tragically Hip's first four records - 'Up To Here' (1989) through 'Day For Night' (1994) on a par with a string of the four greatest consecutive records by anyone, anytime. What you've got there are four varied rock and roll records with nary a bum cut. These days bands are lucky to have 4 decent SONGS let alone four consecutive records with no bad ones. Incredible.

To this day the band refuses to sell out, and has been dropped from more than one label for not capitulating.

("Hi boys, I am the Labatt Beer rep; can we put our logo on the stage??''

- 'NO. We play music, we don't sell beer. Go away.')

The Tragically Hip have since evolved from their beginning (and some would say heyday) from a bluesy rock approach to a more ambient feel - but if you listen closely - the lessons learned by guitarists Paul Langlois and Rob Baker still as much as ever still harken back to the days of Keith Richards/Brian Jones and their ancient art of weaving - as well as to the days of the Taylor Era. Listen to 'Fiddler's Green' off 'Road Apples' and you know the Tragically Hip spent many an hour listening to 'Beggars Banquet.' Bassist Gord Sinclair is a walking metronome and the combo of he and drummer Johnny Fay swings like nobody since Watts and Wyman.

I think it is imperative for any Stones fan to delve into this band, starting at the beginning ('Up To Here' and 'Road Apples') if uninitiated. This was the best rock and roll band of the nineties, in my humble opinion, at least for the first five years of the nineties anyway, and they blow away far better known bands like the say Black Crowes in terms of sheer skill, songwriting, lyricism, power and performance. And yes, they have opened for the Stones on occasion in Europe and in their native Canada.

If I had to choose 7 Stones records - given the supply of electricity or at least a never ending supply of batteries;

Exile
Sticky
Goats Head
Ya Ya's
England's Newest Hitmakers
Black and Blue
Hot Rocks

(and Brussels 1973, of course)

From 1962 to 1968, they were not the best
I think it was the Beatles, for their creativity.
From 1968 to 1973
They were the greatest rock'n'roll band in the world!
From 1974 to 1980
They began to make some change but were still the best
From 1981 to 1989
They were at their crossroads
8 years to comeback to the roots!
I don't like "undercover" and Mick's solos albums
From 1989 to 1995
They gave us 3 very good album
the best one is "Stripped"
From 1995 to now
A good album B2B
2 good bonus on their last album and one very good song "Infamy"

...but Live THEY still ARE the BEST
Listen to the Japanese Concerts of ABB 2006

i would take an ipod loaded with the entire stones catalog and some choice bootlegs.... an ipod would of course weight far less than the albums and i would then not need stereo equipment.... i would need an electrical outlet however..
