best live version of 'tumbling dice'?
Posted by: drewmaster ()

i'm looking for a live version of TD that i heard today on a college radio station ... they didn't identify which tour, but i'm guessing it was steel wheels or urban jungle.

it was incredible ... especially the extended outro, with the horns sounding so sweet and jagger at his most soulful and passionate. easily the best live TD i've ever heard.

anybody have a version of TD that MIGHT be this one ... or similar? if you could post it i'd be so grateful.

thanks,

drew

for miles, the best version comes from steel wheel tour, in my opinion of course

hey buffalo, thanks for posting these. really like the AC version, it is similar to but not quite the one i heard today ... the one i heard was a little slower, and had a longer outro... brought tears to my eyes...

then it might very well be from VL tour, they played it slower then.

Do you remember how Mick sung the ro-o-oll me? That's a very clear sign of what tour it's on. He doesn't sing it at all in 89-90 in general, sings it on a descending phrase in 94-95, sings it the right way during Licks and, this tour, he goes low-high-low.

no, i don't remember ... BUT i went to my video library and watched TD in 'at the max' ... the version i heard today is very similar to that one ... so i'm guessing it was that tour.

The version you heard was probably the Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle b-side.It is on a cd called Stolen Wheels aka Live All Over The World.

Brussels '73 version (Brussels Affair) is my favorite. Charlie's pounding on the "you got to roll me" bit is great, as is Taylor throughout.

Oh yeah Taylor, that version is the ULTIMATE without a shadow of a doubt! Everything is perfect, it's also longer than usual and the final build up is astonishing. For this, for Doo doo doo and for Rambler, Brussels will always be the ultimate boot.

Drewmaster,
Got it in Paris where I'm not - but remind me of it on the 25th of August (precise date!) and I'll send it to you. Other Flashpoint outtakes, as you probably know, are Undercover of the night, Play with fire, I just want to make love to you, 2000light years, Street fighting man... am I forgetting anything? I have them all but for 2000 light years (which I have on a... 2-track tape, these were not around for long!), will post what you want.

New Orleans '94. Definitely my favorite version of the song.
Why:
- I love the way Mick says "Dice"
- I love the way Mick says "Oh yeah..." just before Ronnie's solo
- Great solo by Ronnie, all the way through the song actually
- Great improvisations by Mick at the end, I particularly like the "Come ons" that he says
- Mick ends the song with a great "Come on darling..."
I guess this is Mick's song.

Here it is:
