Hi Gang
When I saw that StonyRoad posted the 1972.07.26 – Madison Square Garden 1972 (London Calling LCCD 5117) I couldn’t help but smile because at this time I was myself having a go to remaster this show using AI to separate the different instruments in order to remix the tape circulating since the mid 70’s (my first bootleg bought in 1975 along with Euro Tour 73 - couldn’t be much luckier…!!!) which had Mick Jagger’s voice and Mick Taylor’s guitar way to loud in the mix.
I could separate the two guitars, the bass (which is almost inexistant on the recording…), the drums, the voice, but not the keyboards nor the trumpet, trombone and saxophone which were stuck in the different separated tracks.
I did the best I could do (I did send my first attempt to Captain Acid and Glimmerman) but this was just a quick try… Not a very good one… Sorry guys!
I spend lots more hours to precisely adjust the levels… I added just a touch of reverb to the vocals to get them less « dry ».
I tried to get rid of the « mud » on the guitars, pushed the bass (what I could extract…), and adjusted the levels (lots of fluctuation!) to present you this version of this great Birthday show.
I guess the bootleggers who released the boot StonyRoad generously offered used the same method BUT they worked on on what sounds like Swinging Pig’s CD release from the early 80’s which was awfully « NoNoised » sucking all the life out of the music, destroying the dynamics and ruining the listening.
I used a High Resolution rip of an original clean LP downloaded on the net (thanx to the uploader!) as basis of this work. No compression was used. Only a slight EQ on the guitars and the tiny touch of reverb on the vocals.
I also added some artwork (thanx again to AI for the pics!).
I'm not a pro audio engineer, so don't be too hard on the judgement...!!! Don't forget it's free... I know some more skilled person could certainly do better! Anyway...
Hope you will enjoy this as much as I do. I had a lot of pleasure and fun spending all this time carefully listening to the greatest Rock'n'Roll band at their finest.
This tour saw the band on fire and this concert is historical.
Do what you want with this work, feel free!
