Agree about these late '82 Pathe Marconi sessions being very interesting. I still really like the official Undercover album, but the more I listen to the outtakes and early demos the more I wish they had skipped the slick production that ended up making the final cut. I actually kinda dig Mick's muffled vocals and the bare bones, guitar-heavy sound of the early recordings, although the Stones (and studio execs for that matter) would probably see them as "unfinished".

Surely do agree!!

On request I would like to make the statement that Tried to Talk Her Into It has Jim Barber on 12-string guitar.

I'd never noticed before how close "Tried To Talk Her Into It" is from "Claudine".

that's the first thing that jumped out at me too...

Beside the rockabilly treatment I don't really ear anything in common.

Thx! I wonder what was his involvement in the UC sessions...
Iirc Jagger brought him in to give a more modern sound to the band's music.

Raise our glass to those who contributed to make this release possible.
It is so rare to have so many unheard tracks at one time.
The last time was probably 2007 with the incredible "Time Trip vol 5".

I'd venture that the last time we got something like this was when the Chuch Magee tape leaked in August 2006 and there weren't even as many unknown/unheard songs, only "Ready Yourself" (the instrumental version) and "For Your Precious Love". "Foxes in the Boxes" is almost as good as "Voodoo Brew"...and a lot cheaper ;-)

What's beautiful here is the care that was taken in putting this package together (research, art work) for the fans and for zero profit, when some other "fans" have been sitting on that stuff for their own personal enjoyment and still have the nerve to come and comment here that "oh yeah I'd heard all this stuff before", sad, sad, sad...

I think they're stuck with their tapes : the bootleg market is dead so (unlike what would happen in the 90's) there's little money to be amde if you send your tapes to Japan.
Then you have the option to share them for free on the Net, sth these fans can't bring themselves to do.
Fortunately some other fans think differently and the JEMS team is here to spread the goodies.

Vol.2 will be all DW outtakes all sung by Ron Wood! (nah!) grinning smiley

To be fair I wasn't 'sitting' on the tapes...I was sitting on a cedar chest that contains the tapes...

Interesting...but if you'd bothered to read the thread you would have seen my comment wasn't for you, besides (almost) everyone here had thanked you profusely back in December when you shared your snippets, however frustrating that may have been...You sound upset so it seems I was wrong, you're not the BK behind "Foxes in the Boxes". Pardon my confusion but since you'd mentioned your snippets would come out in due time. Did you have other plans for them maybe?

You *inquire* about my contribution, well since I don't have access to any "uncirculated tapes", I've only been able to spend dozens of hours compiling and uploading to help share what's available to us plebs. Not to mention the shows I've recorded and shared immediately on Dime where they were certainly snapped by owners of "uncirculated tapes"...good things come to people that wait they say.

Iirc Jagger brought him in to give a more modern sound to the band's music.

He was there as a guitar tech, but ended up jamming with the band when members didn't show up. He remembered playing bass on She Was Hot, Think I'm Going Mad and some long jams, and guitar on Tried to Talk Her Into It and Too Much Blood. On the latter he plays the shimmering, Andy Summers style guitar, all the chordal work.

Thank you very much bkeys - not had chance to listen to this all the way through yet (we have an eclipse going on here), but this seems to be the 20 min version of Keep It Cool. Many thanks again!

nah, can't be that, after all: "Also known as "Keep It Cool Parts 1 & 2," but that could refer to a rumored 20-minute version of the song said to exist."

Nice, converted to FLAC : [mega.co.nz] and first message updated.

EDIT - Just listened to the 20'43" minute version of "Keep It Cool", epic ! And it is cut so who knows how long that jam went on for originally in the studio. I thought the 10 minute version might be an "edit" since I remembered Mick saying "let's go to the midlle eight" from the 10' version at 18'02", but he in fact says "let's go to the middle again" vs "let's got to the middle now" this time, hehe...

Wow, we have a track labeled as "unverified" on the Nico bible.
Don't know how to thank you bkeys but that is really generous from you.
It is a bit like having a new stones album with all those outtakes surfacing!
