Hmmm, seems the best decision with the WLR White Master Box is to forget about the audio tracks (all in Rarities Done Right, better quality, better referenced) and pay attention to only the DVDs.
Rarities Done Right = mp3, WLR Box = CD stuff (10 discs) seems a 1:1 copie from the original (wave) - the vinyl stuff of this box is partly far away from the best available quality and there are some tracks (3?) twice on this box - but i am NOT the defender of WLR.....

Actually, Rarities Done Right is a guide to official material, not a bootleg, or an mp3 collection. Make it however you want, if you want. The CDs I have of the songs I compared to WLR were far superior to those on WLR, including some vinyl rips. But I did not compare them all. To me, correct, accurate information can be just as valuable.

Hey Blake, in your Edits & Alternates : Disc 2 : CD 1963-1983, you have 15. Crazy Mama [Edit] (4:06) Edit of Black and Blue (1976 LP) track. Released on Crazy Mama (1976 7" promo). [S70]. Can you give me more details of this 7" promo, maybe even a shot of the disc label? I want to find out the cat. # and exact name given to the edit, as well as adding a shot of the label to my collection of promo disc label shots.

Hi again Blake. Did you find out anything more about the Crazy Mama 7" promo?

Still waiting for a reply. I have a vinyl rip of this alleged 7" promo, but I suppose it could be from a vinyl Sucking in the 70's.

Is it me, or is the US single version of Street Fighting Man not listed here? I've looked seriously but I can't find it.

After the 2nd verse & bass/piano break Mick sings 'Get Down' on the album version whereas he sings 'Yeah' on the single (I've seen this referred to as 'Get It', although I don't hear that). There are other differences but this is the most obvious.

Martin Elliott mentions "The USA single version has a different vocal mix"

Vox, you are right, but...

I did not include anything that ABKCO has Remastered and Released since 2002.

What is not listed within (with some exceptions):
* Anything currently available on non-compilation studio or live albums including anything released on the ABKCO 2002 Remasters and the Singles releases are not here – these are must haves and are better left alone

The "Yeah" version is on Singles 1968-1971 and Singles Collection: The London Years.

If you mean something different, I am not aware of it.

Are you going to shorten the track listing due to the recent box set?

I support blakeeik's full compilation as originally put together. It's an attempt to put together a complete bunch of tracks, the basis of which he's gone to great lengths to set out and explain. It's not an attempt to put together a bunch of stuff that "doesn't appear anywhere else", and on that basis there's no place for it to be reduced just because of any other compilation. I've been very interested in it for what it is, and I put it that anybody else interested in this big effort should take it as it is. It's up to individuals to reorganize or change the contents to suit their own purposes.

In any event, the release of the recent box set (i.e. the 1971-2006 CD singles box set) doesn't change one bit the fact that blakeeik's list, as his title for it says, is an attempt to list all official non-album tracks. It's a mistake to think that the 71-06 release could reduce blakeeik's list, because what it contains is material that's IN blakeeik's list (i.e. non-album tracks), as well as album tracks. If anything at all, the 71-06 release might have provided additional material to ADD to blakeeik's list, but so far nothing new appears to have come out of it. A suggestion that the 71-06 release might provide a basis for reduction of blakeeik's list just doesn't make sense. QED

First, let me thank all the people involved in this project!
Must have been a lot of work!!

blakeeik:

on the pdf update I miss this entry from Vol.2:Live Disc 1 1963 - 1966:

25. Under My Thumb (1966-10-01-2, Newcastle) (2:52) Released on Got LIVE If You Want It! (1966 US LP) and issued on Got LIVE If You Want It! (1985 London CD). Replaced with an alternate version on Got LIVE If You Want It! (1986 ABKCO CD) and subsequent releases

Any reason why did you take this off?

Hurristone: yes, there are rare stereo versions of WH and JJF promo edits confirmed on the [stones7.com] website.

Rank: UMT was mentioned twice: once under "Live" and the other under "Edits & Alternates" CD3 (where it can still be found). It logically fits both places.

Hi, blakeeik
Great update. I'd like to add 2 cents. In your list
__________
Volume 3: Edits & Alternates Disc 6: CD/Digital 1994-2012
.
.
12. Rain Fall Down [Radio Edit] (4:02) Edit of A Bigger Bang (2005 CD) track. Released on Rain Fall Down (2005 CD single, CD promo). [G!]
.
.
Clean versions (“w@@@@rs” muted) of track 12 and the album edit found on Virgin promo CD-Rs
__________
It seems that 'clean' Radio Edit can be found only on - Rain Fall Down [Virgin-EMI VSCDX 1907]
45x45 Box, Grrr! (Superdeluxe) contain unedited version with explicit word.

Also, situation with 'clean' album edit is not that straightforward.
2005 A Bigger Bang Instoresampler - [Virgin-EMI CDVDJ 3013] (Jewel Case) Europa has 'clean' album version.
2005 A Bigger Bang - For In Store Play Only - [Virgin-EMI 0946 3 41565 2 3] (Card Sleeve) USA has unedited album version.

False...VSCDX1907 includes the dirty Radio Edit. However, the clean Radio Edit IS in existence (I should know). Who wants to shine?

Rain Fall Down CD Promo single VSCDJ1907 has 3 tracks:

1 - will.i.am Remix
2 - Radio Edit
3 - Ashley Beedle's Heavy Disco Radio Edit

All "Clean" versions.

Also, as stated by ironbelly, the "In Store Sampler" CDVDJ3013 has a "Clean" version of the full album mix.

My copy of Rain Fall Down CDS (2005) [Virgin-EMI VSCDX 1907] also seems to have a clean mixes of all 3. Carster - any ideas? Perhaps I got a mislabeled copy.

Miss You "8 Track version" = edited and remixed version IV, featuring extended rap, extended guitar part plus the sax solo (additional strophe)

The Miss You 8-Track is the Chris Kimsey extended mix. The DSKO Mix from the 1978 vinyl and the 2002 remix from Don't Stop (I referred to as a Rock Remix) was created from the master tapes by Bob Clear Mountain. The Rarities Miss You I could never find any information about who mixed it or anything.

I can tell you that all of these versions of Miss You are taken from Miss You #2. If you really want to understand Miss You than you need to know Miss You #2. Miss You #2 is great on it's own!

I've spent countless days trying to figure out Miss You. It all started in 1997 when my friend want to add the sax solo from the LP version of Miss You in to the extended version of Miss You (only one extended version back then).

Our splicing project didn't work for several reasons. One problem was the sound/mix from the LP was not close to the sound and mix of the 12 inch extended version.

Years later after the 2002 long mix of Miss You came out on the Don't Stop single I thought I'd try it again. Now we had a rock mix of the song where the guitars were brought up in the mix much more and these was the bass and drums over-dominating the mix. It didn't work again for several reasons.

One reason the splice job didn't work is because the sax solo over laps with a guitar solo. If you want to find a marker to see where these two version line up, listen to the rhythm guitar (going from memory here) at the end of the sax solo at about 04.16. This is a key marker.

One thing that drove me nuts about trying line-up the different Miss Yous was it seems obvious if I'm trying to line-up the longer 2002 mix and an LP mix would be to line them up when Mick screams, "Whaaa" just before the sax solo on the LP and the same "Whaaa" before a guitar solo in the same spot (different time of course sinse the LP version is edited and the official 8.35 extended version has an added drum loop make the song longer.

The backing music of the sax solo (LP edit) matches the extended version(s) from 4.14-4.28. The “WHAAAA!” on the Some Girls LP edit of Miss You backing music would come in at about 4.13 but the WHAAA!” on the extended Miss You comes in at 4.35.

The "Whaaa" line-up didn't work either because the "Whaaa" is an over dub and they are placed at two different points in the songs. The "whaaa" comes in later I think on the 8.35 versions. That piece of info boggled my brain for the longest time. Remember it's the marker at the very end of the sax solo which is most important to figuring it all out.

You have to base all research on Miss You #2.

People mean well when the share information about Miss You but they are usually wrong. Here in this thread we had good info saying that the 2002 DS (Don't Stop) and the 1978 DSKO (Disco) version were different mixes. Many people say that Rarities is a shortened DSKO mix or a shortened DS 2002 mix. That is not close to being true. The Rarities is an entirely different mix. Something new for the Rarities album. I guess they had this lying around and decided to use it? idk.

I'm a huge fan of Miss You and the Rarities is my favorite. I like the mix the best. I think Rarities is based on the rhythm guitar more where as the DSKO mix is led by keyboards and drums.

A huge difference between the Rarities release and the others is during the harmonica solo just before the 7 minute mark when the harmonica and lead solos are over.

The problem with the Rarities mix for my taste is that when the sax/harmonica solo (which is really cool) is over, the song does not transition well back to the rest of the song (7.11) as it does with the other renditions.

Another problem we had way back in 1996 trying to splice the two Miss Yous together was not only the mix but the LP version runs faster than the longer versions.

Another Marker to let you know which version of the longer Miss You comes from which master mix comes in at 1.34. The old versions of the longer Miss You have that lick at 1.34. Apparently, with the 2002 DS release is when it all changed according to my research. If you compare every longer version of Miss You at the 1.34 lick or "Missing Lick" as I call it that is the key marker to tell you if you have a pre-2002 master the song was taken from or a post-2002 master the song was taken from. Here's some proof:

MISS YOU 8.34 (12' Mix) Flashpoint CBS 4669182 1990 MISS YOU IV A has missing lick 1.34
Miss You 8.35 12' The Versions A has missing lick 1.34
MISS YOU 8.35 (disco) Glimmers-MsYoo 12 vinyl rip A has missing lick 1.34
MISS YOU 8.35 (Extended Version) SG REVISITED A has missing lick 1.34
MISS YOU 8.35 funwithvinyl 12 IN PROMO A has missing lick 1.34
Miss You 8.35 (Special Disco Version) DK 4609 (vinyl) A has missing lick 1.34
MISS YOU 8.35 12 SINGLES 71-06 A has missing lick 1.34
MISS YOU 8.35 24 bit (disco) A has missing lick 1.34
MISS YOU 8.35 CBS 656068 3 (3 inch ) A has missing lick 1.34
MISS YOU 8.35 Singles 71-06 dont stop A missing lick 1.34
MISS YOU 8.35 (Remix) DONT STOP A missing lick 1.34
MISS YOU 7.33 (Dance Mix) Rarities VIRGIN TOCP-66508 A missing lick 1.34

The 2002 DS Miss You which is very similar to the Singles 1971-1006 (2006 release) as well as the old 1978 extended release on vinyl have the same edits, except for the 'missing lick' (btw I like that lick!) besides a totally different mix from all of the other Miss Yous released, the 8.35 edit by Bob Clear mountain is totally different then Miss You #2 or any of the Chris Kimsey edits.

Bob Clear mountain is a genius! Bob Clear mountain not only added/created the drum loop which was cool, especially for the Disco version but rearranged the song, cut, splices, duplicates in a wild juxtaposition (out of order) and it works well! Amazing! Fake!

Yes, the 8.35 is clearly a Bob Clearmountain creation. He's another member of the band here except his instrument is the mixing board and editing.

In the 8.35 versions of the song that Bob edited together he rearranges the entire song after the first "Come Home, Come Home!" It's all out of order and done brilliantly. The last verse he uses should be after the sax solo-guitar solo as it is on the LP but it's a strong ending. It works well!

In the 8.35 edits the "Come Home, Come Home!" is there twice. Bob added it a second time. If you compare the 8.35 version to the original Miss You #2 you'll see it should only be there once. This alone tells us that the shorter releases of the Miss You from the LPs, singles, greatest hits and rarities is not a shorter version of the 8.35 edits. NO!

The 8-Track and Rarities match Miss You #2 exactly until they are done (without the overdubs etc...). The 8.35 you can see isn't even close once the first "Come Home, Come Home!" comes in.

Everything on the 8.35 versions came from the Stones themselves except for the drum loop. However the lead guitar parts before the "Come Home, Come Home" have the vocal over top of the lead. Bob Cleamountain stripped those guitar parts out of the first half of the song and duplicated them and put those parts in again as solos without the vocals. Many parts in the 8.35 edit are actually in twice.

Listening to Miss You #2, which stands tall on it's own, a great version of the song (Sister Morphine version) you can see that the Stones planned for the song to be a single and an extended version. It was certainly, obviously designed that way.

Another thing that was hard to figure out is which parts of the chorus was cut for which version. There are background markers and the way Jagger sings some lines that will give us a clue. I figured it out.

I think the best LP version of Miss You is on Some Girls TOCP-66456 (2005). There is much more guitars upfront.

The best 8.35 mix, idk, the Disco Mix is far different than the 2002 and 2006 releases. Listening to Miss You is like eating Chicken. How many ways are there to prepare chicken? Would you like fired, chicken parm or the disco mix? A little more lead on your croquet with a little more pepper in the mix? ha-ha

Track 1. Special Disco Mix (8:34) - Although there are several extened versions of Miss You, there is only one Special Disco Mix. It was only released on 12" vinyl in 1978. With it's heavy drum/bass Disco dance beat mix, this Miss You is lead by the keyboards and bass. Stripped of much of the songs lead guitar and rhythm guitar and only features a few chords or licks during changes in the song but does feature full lead guitar solos spliced in later in the song. This and the other official extended versions of the song have sections duplicated and re-spiced back in a juxtaposition and also features a drum/bass loop.

Other official releases of extended versions of Miss You(8:35) never captured the mood of this late 1970's dance mix like the original vinyl. This fan made vinyl rip from "Dem Collector's Edition" captures the original vinyl the best!

Track 2. LP Edit (4:49) - This 2009 Universal release of Miss You (UM B0012837-02) is by far the best and brightest mix of the LP Edit of Miss You with the most separation between instruments. The guitars are mix way up compared to other releases and they did a great job of it! The heavily edited, over-dubbed, LP Edit features a Mel Collins saxophone solo which is special to the 8 -Track & LP Edits. This 2009 UM release has the Lead Guitar and Sax brought out better than ever.

Track 3. Rarities (7:33) - This stripped-down rhythm-guitar-based driving mix features a unique harp solo with more lead guitar. This harp-guitar duel is truer to the unreleased original version of Miss You #2.

Track 4. 8 -TRACK (5:44 Some Girls Revisited) - Taken from Miss You #4 (edited version of Miss You #2 with over dubs). The song is based on an extended LP Edit guitar mix and not one of the dance mixes. Only the 8 -Track is the only official release to feature an extended lead guitar solo that goes beyond the 1:20 mark and continues in to the first chorus of, "Ahhh, ahhhh, ahhhh-hh" (solo from 1:07 - 1:34). The 8 -Track features a longer edit than the LP Edit but does not feature the drum/bass loop or additional guitar solos. Like the LP edit, much of the lead guitar is present during the verses and not re-spliced in as lead guitar solos as done in the other extended versions.

Track 5. Miss You #2 - This is the original full-length source master of the officially released, edited versions of Miss You before various over-dubs and mixes. This more laid-back Miss You shows the original take of the song with a different unedited and natural order as created. Full lead guitar in the left channel.
