Nice one ProfessorWolf. Never saw it. Seems they were playing quite well, the drummer was bashing away.

here's another interesting one

this is a video of chuck on ron magars electric impressions (local show from san francisco?) in 1971

apparently everything that could go wrong went wrong here the show was supposed to provide him with a specific guitar and backing band but got him the wrong guitar and no band

so they formed a band from members of the audience to back him which bizarrely included david brown the bassists from santana

from the description of the video

The Rock n'Roll legend makes at special guest appearance at San Francisco based television station 1971. In the audience that evening were three musicians: David Brown (Bassist for Carlos Santana), Don Wehr from Don Wehr's Music City and Camille Decaur. They were asked to come down from the audience to backup Chuck in a moments notice.....

It shows what a total dick Berry is....the way he stops and belittles the band backing him is just so not done in the music scene.

well if understand the situation the band was moments before formed from members of the audience so maybe he had good reasons for what he was doing

at least he didn't literally fire them and kick them off stage like he was know to do if the band didn't play well enough

then again the whole scene is rather similar to the one in hail hail rock and roll were he's giving keith all that crap over some tiny little thing in the intro of carol

here he is doing promised land on sammy & company in 1975

that's sammy davis jr. that comes onstage at the end of the video and presumably he would have interviewed chuck after this performance but for the life of me and with no lack of trying i can not find a video of that interview

Great, but Chuck's part was too short. Nice quality though, thanks for posting. Don't think I saw this one before! Talking about the Sonny and Cher clip.

thanks

i've spent the last year digging around online trying to find, collect and organize all the footage of chuck i could find

and with him there's not a great detailed resource like we have with nico's site for finding all the existing footage of him so i've had to put in more effort and time and bought the few books there are that have that kind of info on him but there far from complete and have quite a few mistakes as well

hope no one minds me hijacking this thread but i've got a lot of footage of chuck to share and if any one artist other then the stones deserves a place of honor on iorr its chuck berry

here he is on the bitter end in 1968 doing johnny b. goode along with a clip of an interview with him on this show

he also mimed along to roll over beethoven but i can't find a clip of that

apparently chuck was less then thrilled to have to perform to a playback of the song instead of playing it live

Sure it is.

The few times I've seen it happening it ended up in a fight on stage.

This is a great example of a song that must have been great in concert but sounds sloppy as a recording, despite the brillant solos of Mick Taylor.

Gary Brooker throwing down in Denmark circa 2006. Lots of bands tried the live with an orchestra route but no one pulled it off any better than this.

I saw Muddy Waters play at the Roxy Theater, LA. 1981 ...the horse neigh guitar sounds on the guitar solos were the sounds of a master musician.
