I watched this a few times and (sadly!) think it's a fake. Watch the way the kid in back hit's the 'wall'.

I agree, and so do most of the YouTube commenters, but it's still funny.

Per Honestman above, Freddy Boom Boom Cannon turns 72 on Sunday, Dec. 4th. He also did 'Palisades Park', one of my all time favorite rock and roll songs.

It would have made a good screen name, the original recording, 1959 she sang at the age of 12 is better but this live version is close and she really is faithful to the original. Stones related, they kind of have hair like Mick Taylor!

Love those '50s jams, any number would do...

I am sure, probably obviously, Dick and Dee Dee have been mentioned on these forums, they did ""It's the.." scratch that, the sister song, "Blue turns to gray", always considered that and "Singer not the song" to be similar, I believe Dick and Dee Dee were a So Cal duo so, I think they picked up on the RS when they went to LA during those Out of our heads/December's children's recordings, however that worked.

"The mountain's high" is a real rocker, no less from 1961, they had soul and they had rock and roll, so some of their songs are really in the same vein as the Rolling Stones and the Animals too.

I am told they also did "Some things stick in your mind" from Metamorphosis.

Probably not much harm to repeat this..

At the moment I'm reading Andy Neill's book on the history of the Faces - and he mentions every short-lived band that any of them ever played in. Here's one I never knew existed, "Santa Barbara Machine Head":

Possibly posted but when I first found this, Bobby "Somewhere beyond the sea" Darin sing this, it was a surprise. Back Street Girl.

I don't think that BackStreet Girl has been posted before, BroomWagon - certainly new to me, and a lovely gentle cover - maybe too gentle, losing much of the spiky sweet 'n' sour vibe of the original. Many thanks for unearthing it.

Here's another Stones cover mentioned in Andy Neill's Faces book: Rod Stewart and the embryo Faces doing their thing with Street Fighting Man (and a stray bit of We Love You)

and here they are tearing it up live in 1971:

This is Stones related in the sense that I once read some biographical information on Mick Taylor that he once played in a group called the Gods, I knew no better when once I saw this release by the Godz and picked it up, obviously, MT was not in this American band. The Godz ending in z are a bit of a cult group, I'm not sure about the record as a whole but Radar Eyes isn't too bad. I think they were from around NY state. Back to Mick Taylor, I don't know if I have read he was in that group called the Gods anywhere else let alone if they were ever recorded. Here is the wikipedia article on them: [en.wikipedia.org] with Mick Taylor.

For the record, I found this to be highly experimental music and did not even feel the band was very proficient with their instruments however, that's just a preliminary evaluation on that album.

Macca has just added this to his setlist, inspired, perhaps, by Bettye's version.

On the above rendition of Back Street Girl by Bobby Darin, I speculate some:

I find it a bit interesting that the Rolling Stones appeared on Dean Martin and Bobby Darin was a bit of a Vegas singer type like Martin and Sinatra though younger, Darin two biggest hits I would think were Mack the Knife, Somewhere beyond the shore and I think he did some rock and roll songs like Splish splash I was takin' a bath and Queen of the hop. So through normal channels or perhaps Darrin heard about the song through this channel.

But on the other hand, I did not know the Stones had condescending remarks made about them on that Dean Martin appearance, I found this:

[mog.com]

Quote

"Well, I don't know if Dean ever apologized t the Rolling Stones, but Dylan was right, he should have, 'cause not many months later, his son Dean Martin Jr was in the pop-rock group Dino, Desi and Billy, who did some Stones covers ('Satisfaction,' 'Get Off My Cloud') and some Dylan ('Mr. Tambourine Man,' 'It Ain't Me Babe' - from 'Another Side of Bob Dylan'!! -- and 'Like A Rolling Stone,'"

One of the clean-cut "Bobbys" who invaded the American pop scene after the first Big Bang of rock'n'roll faded - recorded 1958:

Fun record.

Thanks for your response.

Mick saw Buddy Holly in London, Dylan saw Holly in Duluth, some of the Beatles surely saw him up there. His music is good, I've got supposedly his complete collection. Oh and the Hollies are named for him to. It is good. I think to an extent the music did die like the song says along with the other reasons said, Valens and the Big Bopper were in the wreck, Elvis changed when he got out of the army, Jerry lee Lewis became suspect.. and I can look at charts from '60 and '61. etc. and they do seem to be missing something though there was surely a fair amount of other good music available, maybe not a leader,

But back to more fun records! British invaision fair.
