Summer Romance / Where The Boys All Go
Posted by: keeffriffhard ()

I really like those (Somegirls left-overs?) songs...

In one way they are mediocre.....but on the other hand they have 'something special'

I like Jaggers voice, the 'punkish' guitars.....

Any other thoughts / comments??

Great guitar sound, great playing. Ronnie and Keith at their best. Jagger too.

SR is "chuck berry by numbers" song, charming, but a throwawy still. WTBG is an unusually inspired rocker from the lads, odd key giving it a totally different effect. lead guitar handover is brilliant. song ranks among their best ever, imo....

Agree with T&A. Summer Romance is pretty good - but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere; while Where The Boys Go is excellent+

i'd say summer romance is a really good song, an example of how they can write such a new good song and melody, using the same old chuck berry structure and chords.

What always bugged me about Emotional Rescue is the thin sound and lack of bottom end (bass).

Like 'em both. "Summer Romance" blasted out of speakers all summer 1980. "Boys Go" was later copied by Rod Stewart on "Tora, Tora, Tora" - the girls and guys background stuff.

P. S. Rod also copied "Rip This Joint" on "Better Off Dead" and "Miss You" on "Jealous".

I like these songs. The sound of them reminds me of the 78 tour.

both of those are among my favorite Stones tracks, especially SR; the vitality of the band is immediately apparent. their response to the pistols influence and popularity is full on hot and they sound fierce, casual and in full power on those. summer romance is the full-on gem that got played over and over and over by me when this album was released; it always gets me good.

along w/ She's So Cold and Let Me go these are the best tunes of Emo Rescue... definitely in top10 of 80s songs.

WtBG - funny lyrics, female choir at the end is what I love here winking smiley, and SR is a nice tune as well, great guitars by Ronnie & Keith!

Shall I make a special IORR-fan-edition? A-side "SR" B-side "W...etc."

Mmm I just love those songs

There's a great extended version of "Summer Romance" on the "Claudine (Accidents Will Happen)" boot. It's been made available on "Hot Stuff".

Yeah, I like the bass sound on the ER album. I believe that Ronnie played bass on several of the songs. It gets away from the thick thumpa thumpa sound, and is accented more towards a melodic midrange. You can definitely tell it's played with a pick, which is my personally preferred method.

the bass on SR is among the best on any stones track---very fast, bouncy, and ripping...

SR is obviously a SG leftover. WTBG is not as good but still kicks. It is better than half the album. Ha ha - the two SG tracks that kick are better than half the LP.

Both are great rockers.
Also Dance, Down In The Hole and All About You are fantastic songs.
So I wouldn't say that ER is a mediocre album. At least not in retrospect.

blah! can't listen to it. dull & uninteresting, simply the worst Keith song.

It's funny because Mick clearly has laryngitis for some of the ER tracks. SR, Indian Girl, Dance, Send It to Me. His voice sounds shot for about half the album.

can't hear too, i think its his way of singing of that era

his voice on Indian Girl is kind of scratchy but I like it. It reminds me of the SNL version of Beast of Burden which I know some people detest But I think it is cool sounding.

I thought that was booze. He was said to drink quite a lot during the time of doing the album.
