OT:The Official World Series Thread
Posted by: sweetcharmedlife ()

World Series starts tonight. Is anybody gonna watch? I am,but I would anyway. Should be a pretty good series with Philly who hasn't been their in a while and Tampa Bay. America's new darlings. My D.W.I.P. prediction: Rays in 7.

It must be a sport like American Football or Cricket that makes you you seri(ou)s/ely ask: Is it a WORLD series?

Philadelphia in five. Hamels will win one for the Phils in Tampa. I don't think the Rays know what they will be walking into at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.... You'd have to go back to ancient Rome to find a more blood thirsty crowd.

Sorry, guys. I could've gotten excited about a Dodgers/Red Sox series, but this one, to me, is a yawner. Won't bother with it.

Is it a WORLD series?

Depends how you look at it.

Major league ballplayers come from over 30 countries and 5 or 6 continents

A Philadelphia/Boston series would have been better. The winner of that series truly would have been the World Champions. If the Phillies beat the Rays... Well, let's just say they beat the Rays...

Well, you never know. With this kind of thinking,
you may miss a great series.
Remember 1991 (Atlanta and Toronto)? Or even 2002? 1968 even?
It'll be interesting to see who broadcaster Joe Buck is biased to
since there's no Manny Rameriez or Boston Red Sox.
Too bad Vin Scully or Dick Enberg isn't in the booth.

Yeah, maybe no marquee teams. But a pretty good game tonight. Phillies come out on top by a run. But I really think this one is going deep. But a well played game at least. Compared to the Red Sox blowing out the Rockies last year.

<Major league ballplayers come from over 30 countries and 5 or 6 continents>

That is the case with all the big sports: football, basketball, handball etc. But every country still has its own league, not a "world league".

El Clasico de Otoño is called in México.

Great time for Baseball fans.

BTW, for those who care, next Spring will be held the equivalent to the Football World Cup and it is called The World Baseball Classic. Teams from 16 countries (Italy and The Netherlands from Europe) will play in four brackets; Tokyo, Toronto, Mexico City and San Juan, then those who qualifie for the 2nd Round will play in, Miami and San Diego, for the grand finale in Los Angeles. Japan is the current Champion.

If I'm correct, the Stones have played in all seven stadiums used for this event.

I was only kidding, I love baseball. I just couldn't resist the dig at the original hypocritical poster who seems to be all too eager to criticize others opinions and topics. He knows what I'm talking about.

Go Cubbies...2108 you just wait!

why is it named WORLD series ?

in comparison The national soccer league in my country is called in our humble way "ICELAND TOURNAMENT" not world tournament.

That's funny Vilhelm.

And I think the Tampa team should be called The Death Rays. I'd root for them.
