Tour or album?
Posted by: Thommie ()

What are you dying most for - a new Stones album or a new Stones tour?
Today I'd say tour. But tomorrow I maybe would say album. In fact, I really don't know.

Both - no tour without a new CD.

I think Jagger and Watts are up for that and they will drag Keith through that - a last time.

Unlike many folks 'round here my idea is that
Keith Richards is the one who carries
most songs and song-sketches and song-embryos
to the sessions.

But he is so goddam self-critical, he leaves 98% of it aside.

Album

Unfortunately The Stones make more money from touring so the'll probably tour instead. Also I didn't enjoy their last record so any new one would probably dissappoint me as well. I can't win.

The Stones need release a new album to release a new tour. First the album after the tour.

Tour. No doubt about it. They ought to go through the back catalogue and pick out several of their gems and play them live.

After watching Shine A Light a bunch of times I realize these guys could still make another kick-ass tour.

The Rolling Stones should be on the road in these days and not in the studio.

I hardly listen to ABB anymore. I prefer the older first-rate material.

TOUR!

It's been a while since they've released an album and didn't tour - 1986 precisely. I think it's time they just did an album and forget a tour. Give it some more breathing room. Do another album and then tour and for he final LP deal release another live album.

OR

They do a very short tour like they did for Some Girls. I know that's impossible these days due to the overhead taking 7 months on the road etc with the huge stages but they could get away with it for arenas and the odd stadium date.

album. new material is all that counts.

Album. Its easier on the wallet.

They should only bother going on the road if they're going to have new songs to play AND if they're willing to seriously dip into their back catalogue beyond the greatest hits fare

Instead of another greatest hits tour, I'd prefer an album.

I say neither. They haven't made a good album since TY imo, and the live shows have about had it...they really are getting tired.

Open the vaults!!!

I think there's enough recorded material now. I can't really see anything original coming. I don't know if I'm the template for the age 40+ Stones fan but I buy the 'new' albums, quite like them but invariably end up reverting to playing Exile, Sticky Fingers, Tattoo You etc.

Most artists will showcase the bulk (if not all) of their new albums on a tour but I don't think that's a luxury The Stones have any longer due to a combination of financial contractual obligations, both mainstream AND hardcore fan demands but ultimately it's just too big a back catalogue of material now to please all elements. Nor do I think they'd get away with just performing a 'classic'album in it's entirety (like Lou Reed, Roger Waters with 'DSOTM', Queensryche etc). The sponsors and underwriters just wouldn't wear it with a high-profile brand name like The Stones. We're f*cked all ways. If there is a future tour I think, in the main we're gonna get, well you know what... But hey, that's fine with me but not at any (ticket) price.

Album and a small tour of 43 dates worldwide.
It can get worse than in 2006 and 2007 , so , its convenient to have a smaller tour and a great album that would impact fans as we would like it.

dates:

NYC: MSG 07-12,14,16-2009
Philly : Wachovia C. 07-19-2009
Chicago : United C.- 07-21,23-2009
Miami : Miami Arena - 07-26-2009
Atlanta : Phillips Arena - 07-29,31-2009
Houston : Toyota Center - 08-02,04-2009
Dallas : A. Airlines A.- 08-07-2009
LA: Dodger St. - 08-10,12-2009
Mex. City: Foro Sol - 08-15,17-2009
Buenos Aires : River Pl. St. - 08-21,23-2009
Rio ; ,Maracana - 08-27,28-2009
Tokio : Budokan Hall - 09-10,12,14-2009
Melbourne : Cricket G. - 09-20,22-2009
Milan : Stado G. Meazza - 10-12-2009
Belgrade : Hippodrome - 10-15-2009

Paris : Omnisport - 10-30,31-2009
Rotterdam ; Ahoy - 11-03-2009
Stockholms St. : 11-06,08-2009

Best would be a tour with a really different concept. That does not mean they have to play small venues (ticket horror), above all it should mean they dare something, they show some guts and try more songs, songs that haven't been played for ages or rarely. If they have to play the usual ones, too, they should also be "courageous" and change them a bit, try 'em out a bit. I don't need to hear Tumbling Dice played the same way again and again... other artists can do it, why shouldn't the Rolling Stones (!) be able to do that, too.

Otherwise I'd prefer an album!

Album!!

If they do tour they need something very different and not the usual greatest hits/stadium shows.

Don't know. Maybe I am a bit tired of The Stones. I don't think that there is another good album in 'em. So in order to avoid another disappointment like ABB I think that I don't want a new album. Same with a tour. It feels like the ABB tour ended just a month ago or so. I don't think a new tour would be any different than the ones we have seen since 1989. Another glitzy Vegas-like greatest hits stadium spectacle. Don't get me wrong, it's always great to see The Stones live but during some of the ABB shows I have seen I felt a bit, well...it wasn't the same excitement for me I had on previous tours if you know what I mean.
