The Stones' Ultimate Keyboard Combo: the two Ians

Not to discredit Mr. Leavell, but I'm playing "Handsome Girls", and the combo of Ian Stewart and Ian McLagan is tough to beat. They paired up to perfectly supplement the band, and it could be argued that they were an integral part of it in 1978 and 1981.

I agree they were fantastic, but could they have played something like '2000 Light Years From Home' as well as it was played in 1989-90?

not an issue for Stu, as he would have refused to play on it at all.

I'd settle for 2 Micks...

Mac is British, a mate, and of the ilk, so, in my opinion, he should be in the band.

Chuck is far more versatile though (which is probably why he's been with them since 1982!).

I always thought is came down to the best qualified for the job however, if that were the case, I'd never stepped foot on a stage with anyone. Since Stu is no longer with us (RIP) that's one we will never be able to find out about.

All of them are great players.

While I love Mac and Stu, people like Nicky Hopkins and now Chuck were essential for organ and other various keyboard parts. So I'd have to go with Stu and Nicky.

What songs did Mac really shine on in '81? I need to give Hampton another whirl - all I can remember hearing him on is "Under My Thumb". Of course, he & Ronnie were cracked to the gills that tour, which may have something to do with it.
