Live With Me

I dont think its a bad song by any means, but I just dont get why its such a big favourite. Very good intro though.

I also think Start Me Up is incredibly overrated. Its a great riff, and the way its recorded is superb plus it ticks all the right boxes for working in a live context - but as an actual SONG? Nope. For me its the weakest track on Tattoo You.

I agree with that, but one album prior the weakest track for me is "Miss You" It does not fit the groove and is somewhat boring for me.

Ive got to say I don't get that excited about Dead Flowers. Its not that I can't stand it, I just don't see whats so great about it. would it be as popular if It didn't have "I'll be in my basement room with a neelde and a spoon..." line?

as far as "Stones Country" goes I much prefer Let It Bleed Wild Horses, Sweet Virginia, Far Away Eyes, Dear Doctor... they have a much deeper, fuller sound to me.

I disagree. There's a great song there, but it's buried in
a somewhat lousy mix/mastering for stereo. It'd be great to get hold of the master tapesto see what's actually there. Actually, I've heard it on a AM radio
air check, and it sounds great on AM radio.
I don't know what you mean about the Penny Lane horns
(since Penny Lane came out about 6 months later).
They're two totally differnt styles.
If you don't like the horns just say so. Stupid? I think not.
Besides, HYSYMB has a great middle, building on one chord, etc...

Also one of my absolute faves tomk. Oh well, ya just can't please everyone. There's a lot of surprising choices on here.

My own dislikes?
Miss You - sick to death of it live and vastly overrated on record. White boys can't play disco.
Start Me Up - the beginning of the end for me. EWhenever I hear this I hear the sound of the clicktrack on it's way and that horrible four to the floor beat they use on all the fast rockers these days.
Thru and Thru - the sound of a once great musician fading away.
Rock And A Hard Place - Stadium rifferama that any hard group could cut blindfold. The unique Stone's sound is long gone and this exemplifies that thought.
Indian Girl - Maudlin sentimentality.
Goin To A Go-Go and Harlem Shuffle - two terrible covers.

i am still struggling to dig Angie. it was just too traumatizing when it came out:
all those people who wouldn't have listened to the Stones with a ten-foot Pole before
going all gooey over Angie, and having to constantly clarify that i was NOT one of those ... [shudder!]
maybe it was harder on chicks in a way - being mistaken for one of the gooey types, i mean.
there are still people who assume that a chick who digs the Stones must love Angie.

i am still working on it, though. not digging it doesn't do me any good!

For me,this is the most overrated bad Stones' song.It just sounds like pure noise as opposed to music.

Re: A Great Song You Never Cared For

I'm real surprised at (among other things) how many people don't see why Wild Horses is rated so highly. This is what a ballad should sound like.

Also,I don't believe that Angie is overrated either. The studio version is great with a classical music sound but,the 1973 live versions (Brussels + a few others) are where it's really at when you're in the mood to hear a ballad.

<Can hardly imagine someone thinking of this as "GREAT",but maybe I´m wrong.>

Actually, I can't find anything wrong with this track. Great guitars, great vocals, great chorus.

The lyrics? That goes for lots of stones classics as well.

One of the best songs of the 90s, imo. Not that good live, though.

Must concur with Dandelion, YGMR is a great song, though overplayed at this point, but it sounds great on VL and live, even if it does need a rest.

I don't get that. Neighbours is excellent and has a kick-ass sax solo (Perhaps the best on record). Black Limo is OK, but doesn't get it's due until the Stripped B-sides. Hang Fire is great and has that weird kind of positivity that was found in some songs in the early eighties, and hasn't ever been copied since. Think along the lines of Lindsay Buckingham's Holiday Road and you'll know what I mean. I love songs like that.

Paint it black. Sorry but it just always seemed to be the "cool" one that the students still love. Plus it was my ex's favourite.

Never thought the lyrics were anything special, and its become a place of homage for the Brian Jones brigade. To me it has no real hook and is too knowingly hip. Its the smart arse of the Stones canon.

Just a personal opinion, like all the rest
