so why opening or closing the olympic games 2012 in London ?
50th anniversary ? They will do something different,letting others do this,
and being in an age an IOC membership is guarenteed is not a good reason,
or can you imagine Keith doing shakehands with Rogge ?

Yes I can see Keith do a handshake with Rogge as much as I can see him hug Bill and Hillary Clinton. The Stones are prominent enough to do this gig. But that's just my humble opinion!

Billary and Rogge are two categories (or should I say three)and IMO it´s not a question of prominence....maybe of wealth and taste

The last time I was watching the Olympic opening ceromonies there was Lionel Richie singing. The smell of cyrap was unbelievable. That was enough for me, and I hope The Stones will never get involved into such a thing. But I am afraid they will; they were in that Super Bowl, or whatever that American thing is called, so why not in London 2012. George Michael, Elton John, Cliff Richard, Paul McCartney - I happily see these people to stand in the line in the front of the Stones - suits them much better. But I guess Sir Mick does not agree with me.

I know, I know, I am an old relic who has kind of old ideals concerning the Stones and their 'brand', but I refuse to grow up!

Think of all the licensing that the band could get by having their music used as the theme music going to and coming back from commercials: Start Me Up, All Down the Line, Tumbling Dice - it could really be incredible!

Even with their present day "respect of the estbalishment", they're hardly a suitable image for the Olympic Games. [Thank God ! ]

Fiftieth anniversary or not, this isn't a Stones gig in my opinion.

The reason that McCartney gets these gigs is because he's got feel good lyrics and melodies, whereas the Stones are much harder, lyrically and musically. I don't think Sympathy for the Devil of Gimme Shelter (for example) would work too well in the context of the olympics; I suspect that they want things that are more shiny and happy,

Well I can imagine some Stones songs that would fit for the olympics.

Maybe the next album should be recorded in the "OLYMPIC STUDIOS" where Beggars Banquet" were recorded. That would fit quite nice I think.

The stones won't open the olympics cause the organisers won't afford them. After they've over spent the budget by 700% the only things the UK will offer in the opening ceremony is Take That, A Cliff Richard medley and some traditional dancing: Morris Dancing obviously.....

This one's definitely not a gig for Macca. He's a liverpuldian. These are the London games, and the original London band is of course the Stones.

But you ought to change the title of this thread into something that gives people a clue about the contents... Like: The Stones and the London Olympics
