when you listen to the Faces you think of the Stones

its all there with the Faces. what you listen for in the Stones is there in the Faces.
There's a theatrical musical drunken swagger in both.
All the silliness along with toughness, and musical inventiveness, along with great sing-a-longs, is there in both bands.

Only difference is the extremely labored record-making that characterizes the Stones.

You can't imagine a 2000 Light Years From Home, from the Faces.
Not a knock in either direction, just stylistic attention to detail.
I can't imagine the Stones doing effective covers of later Beatles (Maybe I'm Amazed), (Jealous Guy)

its exciting that there may be a Faces reunion.

I don't because to me Mick Jagger's voice at it's best carries such a sense of power, dread, darkness. Rod Stewart usually comes off as one of the lads.

right on he's a soul stylist, Jagger, well.. both good athletes, though.
I guess its the lighter side of the Stones that the Faces compare to...

I was listening to 'Debris' and others from 'A Nod's As Good As A Wink'
like 'Stay With Me' 'Miss Judy's Farm'
they share a vibe with Stones' music.

Rockman says it best, the Faces share the roots but aren't as based in the blues

Here's another point which I may take some heat for, but I always felt Ronnie Wood brought an element of "cartoonishness" to the Stones that took some of the mystery and danger away. It was part of the Faces, but it never played well for me with the Stones.

The Faces always seemed extremely British to me while the Stones started British and over time the themes and power of their music transcended regionality.

...pulling my sharpened dagger...: Ronnie seems to be doing very well preparing for the Faces Reunion Tour. I can only say this with a sad feeling though.

I love the Faces, and Ronnies playing in it, so relaxed and spontaneous. A much more "fun"-band, compared to the Stones.

They don't take themselves so seriously as the Stones do.

Stones are the best, but the Faces are Nr. 2.

One problem: I always want to have another drink when I hear them, and unfortunally, so does Ronnie.........

I agree with this...

Like the Stones, the Faces recordings still sound fresh. They had a great bass player and drummer just as the stones did. Their guitar player had a down and dirty sound like Keith. Good front men too. The Stones had Stew and the Faces had Mac. Both bands could rock it up, yet the Faces had more touching lyrics IMHO in their many of their tunes. Thank you Ronnie Lane! I still believe the signature Faces song is You're so Rude! Captures the essence of what they were about.

As much as I really liked his playing I don't think Mick Taylor brought mystery to the Stones, and he certainly didn't bring any danger either. Ronnie Wood brought a sense of fun to the band though that differed from the Jones-Taylor years. Whether that is a good or bad can be debated, but I sure thought he was the right guy at the right time after Taylor left. I remember being very happy when he joined up.

I think the first 4 or so Rod solo albums carry that same mojo (likely 'cause Woody and Mac are on all of those, too).
