I was wondering if there are any statistics which songs have been played the most during the stones carreer?

What could be the top three?
1. Sympathy
2. Gimme Shelter
3. Honky Tonk Women

Let's remember that they toured more heavily throughout the 60s than they did in the 70s, so I'd go for Satisfaction (played almost constantly from 1965-1972, & then at most shows since 1981).

It's definitely not Sympathy For The Devil as between 10-10-1970 and late August 1989 it was only performed by the Stones somewhere between 15 and 18 times.(New York '75,L.A.'75,London '76 + maybe at the 1981 warm-up show in Massachusetts) That's less than fourteen months short of being a two decade span when it was only played 18 times at most in concert.Also,it was not performed for the first 2 and a half months of the 1994 tour.

It's not Gimme Shelter either.I don't remember it being played in 1976.It wasn't played at any 1978 shows although it was rehearsed that year.It was not played in 1981 or 1982.It was not played in 2005 or 2007.It's just not a constant part of their shows although I expect it back soon.

Top four in order, with no doubt, would be :

1. Jumpin Jack Flash
2. Brown sugar
3. Honky Tonk Women
4. Tumbling Dice

I'd be pretty sure "Satisfaction" would be at #5 even though it was hardly played at all from 1972-1978 and has had a few periods out of the set since then. It was pretty much a constant however from 1965-67 before any of the top 3 songs were recorded.

The top 3 have all been in the setlist constantly since 1969 (TD since 1972). While HTW was debuted about 20 shows before Brown Sugar, its been played less times because it was omitted for almost all of the 1972 tour and a few shows in 1973.

i wouldn't be suprised if Start Me Up , was up there ,somewhere.

Gimme Shelter wouldnt even be in the top 10.

Sympathy would be in the top 10, maybe around 8 but wouldnt be close to any of the songs in the top 5.

As opposed to the number of performances of a particular song, I recently begin the arduous process of calculating the actual total PLAYING time of Satisfaction since the start of the Licks tour.

...but fell asleep after a couple of minutes.

#6, with Miss You at #7.

Miss You was debuted about 28 shows earlier than SMU, but SMU has been played at almost every show since it was released, whereas Miss You was dropped during the entire No Security tour and played infrequently on the Licks tour.

Not sure about the order of the rest of the top 10, but I would wager the 3 songs were Sympathy IORR and YCAGWyW

While half of the Stones concerts took place up to and including 1967, there was a lot of variety from one leg of each tour to the next with big hits dropping out of the setlists within a few months of them being in the charts, so thats probably why not too many Brian-era songs would be in the top 10

I don't think there are more than 20 shows where they didn't play Jumping Jack Flash and Honky Tonk Woman.

Juming Jack Flash > No,I don't think that it has been dropped more than 10 times.

Honkey Tonk Women > Yes.It was dropped (as stated above) for almost the entire 1972 tour + some 1973 shows + at one of the Chicago United Center 2003 shows.

Gimme Shelter was only played at a couple of 1969 shows, and wasnt played at all between 1976 and 1989. There have been several tours since (including Licks) where it hasnt been played at all.

No,(as stated above) it's the fourth most played.For one thing,it was not released or played in concert until 1972 compared to the top 3.Also,it was given a long break during the 1976 tour and they didn't play it in Albany 2005.

JJF was debuted in 1968. The number of shows since then in which it hasnt been played would barely be in double figures. Likewise with Brown Sugar since its debut at Altamont in 1969.

TD has also hardly ever been rested, but would be around 60 behind JJF.

JJF is quite possibly the only Stones song which has been performed in concert over 1,000 times. Brown Sugar MAY have also passed that figure in 2007, though. I'd need to check that one.

Gimme Shelter was actually played quite a few times on the Licks Tour.The last full tour when it wasn't played at all was the '81/'82 tour unless you count legs of tours > 1994,2005,2007.

You Got Me Rocking has been quite close to being a constant fixture since it was debuted in 1994 :

1994 : It was played at almost every show,if not every show.
1995 : It was played at almost every show,if not every show.
1997 : They did ease up on it a bit here but,it was still around.
1998 : It starts to gain steam and is played heavily.
1999 : It is played at almost every show,if not every show & becomes a warhorse.
2002 : It is played at almost every show,even theatre shows.
2003 : It is played heavily once again.
2005 : It is played at almost every show.
2006 (pre-Europe) : It is played at almost every show.
2006 (Europe) : They finally rest it after Leavell is bombarded by e-mails calling for it to be dropped.
2006 (fall U.S.) : It starts to creep back.It's even used as an opener in Chicago although they used it that way in Chicago 2003 as well as Austin.
2007 : They can't resist and it makes its way back into heavy rotation.

I'd say that it has been very close to constant.

Excluding the top ten established earlier,what songs have been played more often?

Maybe Street Fighting Man could crack the top 12.If not,it has to be top 13 but,who has the time to research that far into it?

The question is how many times have Jumping Jack Flash, Brown Sugar and Honky Tonk Women not been played.

Pretty sad that a song like You Got Me Rocking has been played at almost every show since its been released. There are so many better songs they've written from 1994 to today.

Honky Tonk wasn't played America 1972 (although they should have stuck it before MR & encored w/it NYC matinee - the only mistake on that tour besides landing in Warwick).

I like You Got Me Rocking although there are in fact better songs from the era Voodoo - Bigger Bang.
One must say that YGMR works pretty good on stage so it's no pain in the arse if they played it. I guess it would be finde as opener as they did it very few times on Licks and ABB fall 2006. Why not as tour-opener?

im quite sure its satisfaction, it has a head start on brown sugar, jj flash, tumbling dice, its only rock and roll etc.
