AWESOME way to go Mick Taylor starting your solo at 6.26 and fading out Jaggers Vocal. Great power play to show the glimmers who is in charge way back.

ROLLING STONES - Montreux Rehearsals Pt. 1 (1972)

What is that doinky crap Taylor is playing during the verses? His counter is blaringly out of place and doesn't work.

So that is what you think they should sound like next year on this so-called tour?

Wonderful stuff.

...from back in the days when they actually DID rehearse.

So Taylor was too high to remember his cue and came in too early. That's another way to explain it.. the fact remains it's a hot solo and it works this way. It's about interplay.. it's not about showing anyone 'who's boss'. If you think that's what's happening there, you completely miss the point of music...

Taylor´s playing is just dull and aimless. He can´t even find the right notes on the second solo.

Wha this rehersal duly mixed in real time like you should have in a show today? It sounds not.

In a show, you have a sound engineer to put more or less imput on the differents instruments in the band, in real time, according to the timing of the song - especially during a solo.

But in this footage, it seems all the instruments and the singer have a constant output. That may explain the fade out thing.

As a second thought, I wonder how was the important of the mix during the live performances of the Stones in 1972-73.

It seems, like in this footage, there were a constant level, and that the mix at that time was not really so important.

But it is a wild guess. This "unmixed" feeling may due to the direct recordings on the soundboard we have, like Welcome to NY, Bedspring symphony, and so on (correct me if wrong).

Meaning that in those boots, it is also possible you cannot hear what was actually the mix provided to the audience during these shows.

this is true today too. People often look for and value "soundboard" tapes without realizing that they're not going to hear what the audience did. Also not seeming not to notice that guitars etc. tend to be turned way down in soundboards.

The complete tape is really cool, though to watch in its entirety. Hip Shake, Tumblin Dice x 2 and a couple of jams! I believe(if I'm not mistaken) the live vocal over taped music "Loving Cup" was taped at this same session?

the entire 5 song set is on 4 Reels "The Marquee/Montreux Rumble" and also includes the Lovin Cup promo at the end of the disc shot at the rehearsals.
Highly recommended!

My favorite version of Tumblin' Dice is from these sessions. I love those country riffs that Mick uses throughout both versions. Tre cool!
