heavy aloholics first have to get their body clean and therefore they need medical help. with alcohol you cant just stop, that can be very dangerous.
besides the phisical sympthoms of an addiction there's the bigger part of "mental-addiction" this takes months or even years. alot of psychotherapy and stuff. those 1- week rehabs are actualy a bit of a joke. you can get your body clean, but the main part of the addiction is not gone....anyway, all the best to ronnie

ok, thanks.

Good luck Ronnie. I play his music a lot those days and it rocks! I love the slow numbers too. He is a hell of a great musician.

Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood enters rehab
Wed Jul 16, 2008 12:55pm EDT

LONDON (Reuters) - Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has entered rehab for a drinking problem, his spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

"Following Ronnie's continued battle with alcohol he has entered a period of rehab," Wood's spokeswoman said in London. "His close family and friends say he is seeking help and look forward to his recovery."

The announcement followed a series of British newspaper reports that Wood, 61, had been spending time at his Irish retreat with a young Russian cocktail waitress.

They added that the relationship had threatened his 23-year-old marriage to wife Jo.

Wood, who has had a history of substance abuse, told Reuters in an interview last year that his wife and Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger had persuaded him to enter rehab before the band's 2002 tour.

Before then, it was fellow guitarist Keith Richards who tried to help him sober up, he said, sometimes drawing a knife or wielding a pistol in the process.

"A long-term addiction to the drug cocaine led to the star having a plastic septum inserted in his nose in 1975."

i've never heard about that before
is this really true?

So does this mean Ronnie is retiring from Rock N' Roll? Will The Faces nix their reunion now? Will the Stones finally call it a day? What's next, will Keef follow suit and enter rehab next?? Is this the end of Rock N' Roll? Stay tuned for these stories in Rock.

He should ask Eric Clapton for help. Seriously. Clapton used to be a one-binge-a-day-alcoholic for years and now runs a rehab facility. And anyone who has read his autobiography knows he's dead serious about staying clean as well as helping others. He says staying clean is the most important thing in his life; out of necessity is has to come before even his love of his own family. Maybe if Ronnie adopted this view, Jo & family would at least get the privilige of coming second place...

I've personally never understood alcoholism. I mean I like to drink as much as the next guy but I can hang out with people who are drinking and have a soda, I can have just a couple drinks, or if the mood is right go all night. It's never effected my job or personal life, at least not that I'm aware of. Am I an alcoholic? I'm sure those who make their living counseling would say so. I have too seen those such as Ronnie who get on the train and can't for the life of them get off. I can't understand it though. Very scary indeed.

Good luck Ronnie we all (well most) wish you the best!

You're not a alcoholic. How come you figured you were??

Re: Ronnie goes into rehab ... good luck Ronnie

I know that I'm not but as others who do drink occasionally could attest, those around us who don't drink at all are the first to accuse those who do of being alcoholics. If that makes sense.

But its patological, its within the body,
has nuthin or at least very little to do with social behaviour.
Person A could drink daily for 20 years and not become a alcoholic,
while Mr or Ms B gets stuck after the, say, second half pint.

Lost my best friend 2½ years ago to King Alcohol.
For me it killed the joy of drinkin'.

I can relate Bro, lost my cousin/best friend of 35 years that I grew up with from the cradle...hit and run while walking along a country road and left for dead like roadkill. I still have a few but will agree it killed my thirst for getting plastered.

If you cant do without it, you're an alcoholic.
Easier to see in the Lutheran and forbidding/restrictive cultures
of Norway, Sweden and to some extent Finland (even Denmark);
more like a blur on the continent in Europe and probably in the US when you
can have a drink any time, (almost) anywhere.

I've often heard people say I'm not an alcoholic, I'm a drunk. Alcoholics need help, drunks don't.

That can be funny. It also can't be. But I've heard people say that with all serious intent. So they could be right - on that level. I dunno.

Someone who chooses to abuse alcohol can choose not to. An Alcoholic has no such choice. They can not quit on their own, they need outside help. Get well Ronnie
