That was great, thanks! Love the picture of Mick with the fur hood around his face. All of the images fit so well with the music( except the single lily of the valley flower...couldn't figure out why that was in there!). Pretty, still. Yeah, we may not have winter as we know it in a few years. That has always been a favorite song of mine.

Is winter on any of the Stones DVD's and which album was it on?

Like some other comments,Winter has always been one of my faourite Stones songs from one of their great under-rated albums, GHS.

a beautiful, thoughtful song indeed, very underrated. But I think it pays the price of being on the second side of Goats Head Soup. I like the album in the whole, but I think that even their admirers will recognize that the second half is kinda weaker than the first (try to forget that you already listened to Angie for 10.000 times). A little bit like in Tattoo you, the second side has some beautiful songs, such as Tops or Worried about you, but somehow it sounds too "cautious" (for that it has its own charme in some moments) if related with the effervescent first half.

Great! "Winter" is such a beautiful but underrated song. Always loved it, always will. Great great tune!

GHS is underrated because it came directly after Exile (or after a glorious run of Beggars, Let It Bleed, Get Yer Ya Yas Out, Sticky Fingers and Exile!) and it just was not the album people expected from the Stones at the time.

I love each and every song on GHS! for me it is a great album, it shows the Stones going into a new direction - and what else could they do at the time? Trying to repeat Exile was impossible anyway, and Im sure it would have damaged their reputation tremendously.

A good description. But I think for some reason the band (Keith?) didn't liked the new direction, and a kind of panicked. To my ears IT'S ONLY ROCK'N'ROLL basically is a try to go back to 'safe' EXILE direction (I can also understand why Mick Taylor got tired soon; a song like "Winter" shows the potentiality he had to offer to the Stones). However, BLACK&BLUE was another try to do something innovative, again.

whats even more astonishing about GHS is that it is all new material, written and recorded specifically for this album, unlike Sticky Fingers or Exile which also have a lot of newly written stuff but also "cleaned the vaults" in terms of songwriting ideas back to as early as 1968 (Sister Morphine). Exile used a lot of "older" ideas like Tumbling Dice - Good Time Women, Shine A Light - Cant Seem To Get A Light On You, All Down The Line (original acoustic demo from 1970), Loving Cup (first recorded in 1969 and even premiered at Hyde Park the same year).

mexico stone I think the people in Michigan might disagree with you. As a college student up here I am trapped in my dorm because there is a freaking blizzard outside. The temps here are lower then they usually are this time of year. Single digits!!!
