Well, if you look at what kind of company they are associated with (the nature of their biggest 'rivals' on the list), I don't think the term 'best' is much worth. Biggest whores, to put it straight.

Maybe they set their price this high because they don't WANT to play at private parties?

A simple "no" would usually do the trick, in that case.

There was also a corporate gig for Pepsi in Kona, Hawaii in January 1998.

The Barcelona show was for Deutsche Bank. The only actual 'private party' theyve done was the Las Vegas one in November 2002.

That is the going price for a private party with the Stones. Just ask Deutsche Bank, pictured at their Stones party in Barcelona July 12 last summer:

Some private parties the Stones have done lately; they usually do one per tour:

David Bonderman - Las vegas - Saturday Nov. 16, 2002:

Cheers. bv. I should clarify that by 'private party' I was differentiating between a corporate gig and a party for an individual - as in the case of Bonderman's birthday bash in 2002.

All these are private. I am sure David Bonderman did not pay the bill himself, but left it to the Texas Pacific Group. He is worth 3,000,000,000 US dollars so the Stones party would have been pocket money for him anyway. Private means they are booked in a closed setting where the public is not invited.

I know, but I meant as a difference between a corporate bash for high ranking executives and being hired to play someone's birthday party.

I'm still patiently waiting for an IORR member to turn into a multi-millionar and make the private IORR gig happen.

I guess I could grow a ZZ Top beard in the meantime though.

You mean the ones who are paying these money to see a rock star? No, they are totally shameless.

Why not? If people have that sort of money to throw around then why shouldn't the Stones take it?

"Everybody wants somebody's fantasy
Everybody wants somebody's crazy dreams
If I was a movie star, five million dollars would be my price
If I was a trucker, I'd drive for seven days and seven lonely
nights
If I was a drummer, I would never miss the beat
If I was a dancer, y'all would never see my feet
If I was a hooker, a thousand dollars would be my price, all
right
If I was a candidate for President, I'd make sure I had a
steady wife
If I was a millionaire, I'd spend all my money in one crazy
night "
And:
If I was The Rolling Stones 3,5 million pounds would be my price!!!

because they should have more self respect

they don't need the money

if every band just dropped their pants as easy as the Stones do at the promise of money the world would be such a sad place

The Sugababes £250,000!! Have you seen them live- they can't sing!

By this comparison, the Stones should get £10,000,000!!

"because they should have more self respect"

"We were in danger of becoming respectable" -said Jagger or something like that didn't he???

Although I certainly don't doubt they make those sums (I actually thought it would have been more more). If it were known it would not be private event and instead would be a PR move to bolster interest.

Why would someone consider them whores? That's capitalism at its very best! An entity has a good or service for sale and a buyer chooses to pay what they or the market can bare.

They are not a commodity that's required for life itself. Its not like they are ripping people off. It's what a person, fan or business is willing to pay. Good for them. It just proves they are worth what they make.

Hail, Hail the free market system.

I suppose its just worth pointing out that (probably)if they had been offered to play Las Vegas in the mid sixties for a huge amount of mullah they and ALO would have probably declined.
Not sure about what Klein's view would have been, though.
However, times have changed (to quote Bobbie Dylan).

If solo artists can command £1 million, then £3.5 million is a discount price. Get 4 for the price of 3.5 - it's a bargain!

Yeah, 'the times have changed', and there is not much 'dignity' left. Back in the 70's Jagger insisted that if would do it for money, he would it solo and play in Vegas like Elvis. Seemingly, there where other values at the time. Few years earlier he and Keith talked Gram Parsons out of touring South Africa, and the reason was not based on solely capitalist reasons.

Well, Jagger tried it solo, but I guess for not solely non-economical reasons he decided that he is more 'happy' with The Rolling Stones, and seemingly he is willing to play anywhere for anyone for a certain sum.

It's good to know that if I happen to have enough money, I can chooce if I take a stripper or The Rolling Stones to entertain my aunts and uncles at my forecoming 40th birthday party.

It's only money. It's no skin off anyone's back here. Is it?

I think it makes sense - they should get paid the amount of what they'd make on a working night for a night off.
