My girlfriend, who used to like rock and grunge, discovered the 70's hardrock and then the metal. Though I like hardrock (especially Led Zep and AC/DC), I can't stand metal. I think it's a kind of f***ing useless noise.
What about you? Anybody likes? dislikes? hates? wants the metal not to have ever exist?
Sorry for my english ; I'm a french little boy (but I like it)
i just like black sabbath and just a few metallica or judas priest songs for the "metal" terms , other stuff is a shit for me. anyway , i think the most of you like sabbath , dont you?
depends on what kind of metal. There are so many; gothic, death metal, trash metal,... Sabbath, Motorhead are just hard rock, close to rock style. Metallica made up the heavy metal. Such a major band for music. Some others not so famous are excellent : Katatonia (LAST FAIR DEAL GONE DOWN), Machine Head (the blackening) I just discovered this band : Paradise Lost. Their cd Draconian Times is a must. Not so heavy and if you like R&R you will appreciate it for sure.
Hard rock & heavy rock, Purple* -Sabbath-Zapp'lin-Lizzy-school from various periods 1969-1976 (* plus mid-80s & early 90s) circa, is my cup of tea... Performed mainly in Hungary also circa 1974-1985 (and now again).
The heavier stuff, where you just cannot understand the singing whatever you try, we use to describe as "stick your head in the toilet and pretend you're getting slaughtered". This 'genre' of singing has also got a more sofisticated name but I cannot remember it at the moment.
I feel bad about it because I usually think: each to his own, but when I hear that kind of noise I cannot help but laugh...
I do usually enjoy the 'salonmetal': established names that found there way to a broader public. Sabbath, Metallica. (I must have insulted someone here but I just mean the more melodic music with understandable vocals and rythm.)
Older stuff like Black Sabbath is very good. Newer mainstream stuff like Metallica, Slipknot is not my cup of tea. There's some good scandinavian metal, black metal mostly. Dissection is my favorite. But it's all pretty boring to me. A lot of noise but rarely any innovative stuff.
