It's too bad, the covers album sound like a cool idea with T-Bone producing...
Loved Endless Wire and hope this is just typical Townshend venting ...he did the same thing before doing Endless Wire...

Doesn't it? It must be that woman who is trapped in his body.

Here's a novel idea for Petey. Check out the current Bruce Springsteen tour for ideas for how a classic rock act should tour. Play EVERYTHING. Dig into your catalog. Play stuff you haven't played in years, play stuff youv'e never played live before. Play ANYTHING but We Don't Get Fooled Again. AGAIN!

Yeh - like trying to retain at least some artistic integrity. Good on him. If you've got nothing to say - don't say it.

Artistic integrity? Like when they were doing greatest hits tours 20 years after the release of their most recent album because their bass player couldn't make the mortgage payments on his castle?

Wow, the stones are perfect. I mean look at all the songs from ABB in the movie and soundtrack to SAL. Speaking of which, its been a few years since the stones did a new album, But then again Im sure they are just trying to produce a good album, again. And on their next tour, I hope the stones dont play Satisfaction, ANYTHING but Satisfaction. Oh wait, its their signature song, they have to play it, just as the Who have to play Wont Get Fooled Again.

So what do you think Happy Jack? PT does have a habit of dismissing hopes then an album appears. Didn't the same happen with EW?
Whats your take?

Maybe if Pete did something memorable....

Re: OT: Townshend Scraps Plans For Who Album And Tour

Yes ablett, Id agree with you. Pete is a perfectionist, which is why it took EW so long to get made. I think we will still see some activity out of the Who soon, but Pete, from what Ive read, is one of those people who has one idea, then wakes up in the middle of the night and gets another one. I think this is that case: he originally probably liked the idea of a covers album, but then decided abruptly that he wanted to write an album of original material.
I think its unfair to dismiss Pete as so many have already as making excuses, and to deride him for it. This is nothing new: in 1972 the Who were going to have a new album out, but Pete dismissed it abruptly and we ended up with Quadrophenia the following year. 1971 was the same case with Lifehouse: Pete ended that project for a number of reasons, and then returned with Who's Next.
So to conclude: Id rather Pete and Roger take their time to create a good album, then to rush and make a poor album that they and we as fans wont like. This has always been the Whos style: they were never very prolific in the studio, but when they released albums they were usually of the highest quality.

He needs to stop worrying aboutit. If he doesn't enjoy playing Rock N Roll anymore ...then fine. But if he does, what other justification does he then need ?

I agree with you all..tortured artist, frustrated woman?lol??, perfectionist, too much worrying, and so on. Rock and roll shouldn't be perfect though. As far as integrity, I would have rather read that he's just too busy to work (keep it to your self, Pete)

That's another thing I admire about Mick....he's a perfectionist but keeps light-hearted at the same time. He's far more creative that Mr. Townsend imo.

That's very true Tatters - Although I mean't in the context of where he's at right now. It seems he isn't content to just plough ahead with the Who without having a sense of artistic purpose - I just find that quite admirable.

A friend of mine works for PT on his estate - apparantly he never stops whinging on about how much money he (the who) lost on the last tour. Despite this - he is buying a bigger pad not far away from the old one for a mere 5.5 million squids.
Life in a bloddy bubble.

Great point SCL. And while we're at it let's get The Stones to do the same. The big hits/warhorse tours are becoming a bit like a glorified chicken in a basket club act, but in a stadium setting. Drop the hits, play the blues and lesser known stuff.

The best concert I've ever seen in my life was a Who show, November 28, 1975. I'd love to see them again.

Saw The Who on their first farewell tour in 1982. Just a great show.
