Thanks georgelicks. Strong sales. I think SAL deserves it. Excellent live stuff.

BTW, anybody can see how low the general level of sales is... An album of a famous, good selling act like REM's sells 469,500 copies on it's two first weeks. (If i remember correctly, ABB had sold 1.1 million on it's two first weeks). Music only taken from Internet? Who knows, maybe in four - five years from now...Or sooner?

Sales from the other source: 114,000, still #6 worldwide.

Total: 148,000/158,000 total in 2 weeks

Music only taken from internet? Well, not in our lifetimes. There are still so many people who want the actual product. Vinyl is doing quite well in collector circles.

EDIT. SAL is #30 in Finland.

Matti, i love vinyl too. And i'm buying albums from stores. But the "population" of the buyers decreases. Industry wants profit. Industry will not be reliant on collectors, you know that. Even if the prediction about "four- five years" sounds a bit excessive, what is coming isn't what we would wish...

Shouldn't the Global chart be considered the bench mark as opposed to the U.S. chart?

It's now down on # 34 on Billboard - that was a fast downturn

Better than ABB which went 2-13 on the second week.
The #13 album (Sarah Brightman) sold 8,752 copies, I guess SAL sold 9,000.

32.000 copies sold in two weeks is not bad at all for a Rolling Stones live album in 2008.

I think SAL sells very well. If i'm wrong georgelicks will correct me, but the last live stuff i have seen on Worldchart was REM's live album. (October 2007). It has stayed three weeks on Worldchart selling 139,600 copies. On it's two weeks SAL has already sold 148,000 or 159,000 (as georgelicks said, there are two sources). Yes, SAL has a lot of publicity thanks to the movie. On the other hand, REM's Live is band's first live, contrary to the Stones who have already created many albums of that kind.

On it's first week in Greece, SAL is #6 on the "Foreign Top 50 Albums" and #17 on mixted chart (Greek & Foreign Albums). Yes, we have two catalogues here... I think the sells are good, considering that movie isn't on, yet.

cd sales are definitely tanking. did anyone see the chart in the back of the RS with the stones/jack white on the cover? i think it's the first time i've ever seen a top 40-50 and (unless i'm missing something) not one of the cds/albums has the asterisk/# for gold (500k sold) or platinum (1 million sold) record. remember, they used to be double that, at 1 million for gold and 2 mill for platinum. crazy!

Gold records are a hard work today, only Mariah or Hanna Montana could get a Gold album in a couple of weeks. Platinum is a luxury, only 10-15 releases on a whole year can reach that mark, let alone double platinum.

Sales are reasonably decent during the first week, but then a Top 10 album is out of the top 200 in 6-7 weeks.

The other source (www.musicharts.net) says 83,200. Still on #10. So SAL has sold 225,500 or 241,800 copies so far. No big deal, but how can these two measurements be different, georgelicks? Just curious..

Re: SAL at #6 on the Worldchart

Musicharts.net cover a couple of more countries with no real sales dates, just "supposed" sales. Their numbers are a bit higher. Musicharts is about 85-90% accurate.
Mediatraffic is almost 95% accurate, and only tracks real sales information.

It's very hard to track world sales, about 70% of the countries have a Soundscan style system. For the rest, the sales are weighted to the size of its markets.

Anyway, SAL sold between 225,000 and 240,000 copies worldwide so far, 16,000 copies of difference in the world is nothing.

Greece: second week, one position higher! Now SAL is #16. Very good, considering the fact that chart is full of albums created by famous, popular greek artists, these days.

From Greece, again: on "Top 50 Foreing albums" chart (not on the mixted one) SAL is # 4. Better sales only did Duffy, Moby and Joe Dassin. Great...
