I once read a quote from Seka or Marilyn Chambers (other American artists from the '70s) where she said that when applying her talents to him, it was the "breadth" of his talent that made it difficult, not the "length".

I thought of Syd, too, but was the talent still there, unused, or did the talent disappear in all the drugs and madness? Funny thing about Taylor; his Stone's Throw CD came packaged with his "resume". If you had a resume with the kind of gaps he's got in his, would you show it to anyone? Especially if the best thing in it was a job you quit in 1974?

Not sure what's worse; having talent and not doing anything with it, like Taylor, or having talent and using it poorly, like Elvis and Rod.

Another one that comes to mind: Jimmy Page, since 1980.

Is playing the blues on your own without makingt big money wasting your talent? If you don't make big money then you are wasting your talent? I would say that using your talent and making big success commercial wise is not connected at all. Is Bill Wyman wasting his talent? I don't think so. Are Michael Jackson and Britney Spears and Whitney Huston wasting their talents? Probably. It all depends what you want to do and what happens in real life. Elton John have done many strange things but he never wasted his talent. Mick Taylor wanted to play the blues so that is his talent and he does not waste it. If you want to hear him playing then he is still doing shows. Brian Jones is a long, complex and sad story...
