If you haven't signed on, we could use your support for the Ya Yas Project. Please go to [www.geocities.com] Once we get a sufficient number of signatures, we will present this petition to the Stones organization (and ABKCO if necessary) as a first step in letting them know that we in the Stones fan community would like to see valued archived material (audio/video) released from the vaults. Many of us feel that the re-release of Ya Yas (along with other valued recordings) is long overdue. We want to thank those who have participated thus far and helped spread the word.

if this thing goes to the real source, lets keep it coming. I think MJ knows what 1 million copies would do for a few phone calls and maybe some interesting work?
... no "arguments pro and against" here - just a strong feeling that even if a petition were a way to get the Rolling Stones to do something (which is a major & doubtful "if" ), this particular petition would have a better chance of looking serious
~ if it were asking for a release that the Stones own the rights to (YaYas is owned by ABKCO, so the Stones aren't the ones to address requests for its re-release to - but at the same time, unless a new agreement with the Stones is reached, ABKCO doesn't have the right to issue any more unreleased Stones material, so it's completely unclear who this petition is aimed at);
~ if it didn't start by asking for a "remaster" when what's meant is "an expanded edition" (YaYas was remastered in 2002, and it sounds pretty freakin fine. starting the petition by insulting that release when remastering isn't even what's meant is not a real good approach);
~ if it were requesting the release of archival material that more people were actively interested in, or - even better - if it left the addressees some choice in what material to start the Great Vault-Opening with (recently there was a thread here about people's "wish lists from the vaults" and i believe "an expanded version of YaYas" was mentioned approximately once, probably by one of the authors of this petition. there's miles of stuff that people hope exists that we've never heard, compared to which the attraction of re-releasing something we all own & love seems kinda limited.)
in other words: if the aim is to let the Rolling Stones know that fans would love some archival releases, then why not say that in the petition?? focusing on something that involves a buttload of legal complications and wouldn't be especially profitable for the Stones even if it sold hugely (since they don't own the rights) doesn't seem like a way to make the proposal attractive to them; and a more general petition expressing enthusiasm for releases from the vaults would probably attract more signatures as well. meanwhile the people pining for an extended version of YaYas can each chip in some money and hire someone like Drake to put together something like what they're dreaming of from the available bootlegs.
i am glad the authors of the petition corrected the spelling of the Maysles brothers' name - that's progress, as is the realization that ABKCO might have a little something to do with it, so it's good that the authors took those details on board when people on shidoobee pointed them out. still, the main impression the petition conveys is that some people haven't been paying much attention.
not that that's any reason not to proceed - as i've said, this much thought is not the spirit of this project carry on :E

cool, Ringo - i personally am not sure in what way it's "better than nothing", but ... never mind! :E there are what, about 450 signatures right now? maybe someone could ask Drake how much he'd need to engineer something like what they want from the existing 1969 bootlegs, and then see if the signers can collectively come up with that amount. "better than nothing" :E

Cool, Ryan! Unfortunately I do not have the time to arrange such a petition this month, but I can, however, give you a preview of the cover....2CD or 4LPs
