Bill Wyman on The Stones
Posted by: bv ()
Date: October 19, 2007 13:53

There is an interview with Bill Wyman from their visit to Lillehammer earlier this month. He says the Stones should have quit long time ago, because they are no good anymore, they play music which is out of time. Then he says he took his daughters to the O2 show in London in August. They liked the Stones show a lot and they asked him why he quit. Then he replied: "If I had not quit then you would not have been born". See the entire interview (in Norwegian): [www.p4.no]

Bill has also been busy converting the younger generation in Scotland:

Google for "BBC Radio Scotland" and you can listen online to the interview on Thursday 24th.

Correction! The interview is being RECORDED this Thursday and BROADCAST on Wed. 24th.

Stange comments I think. He said that he quit the Stones 1993 when they where at their best. Then he says that they are not a band anymore. He sounds somehow bitter about the fact that they carried on without him.

I respect Mr Wyman's comment, although I might not fully agree. On the other hand, the end can't be far away. They should call it quits after the tour in 2008.

I think it's great that Bill is taking his love of blues to literally a grass roots level and educating young kids who otherwise would have had no exposure to one of the great art forms of recent times.

Keith is the one who said that he'll have 'He passed it on' on his tombstone. At least Bill is practicing that preach and not just playing Jumping Jack Flash for the millionth time to already converted Stones fans.

Of course he can't say they heve become better since he left (which is not true). He defenitly lost a lot of money by not joining them on the latest tours. In recording he wasn't really involved after 78.

I can't think of ANY kids who know who he is or would even dare go to one of his gigs......

From BBC article posted by Green Lady...

'Sounded brilliant'

He was able to pass on his love of the musical genre to the watching schoolchildren.

"I knew nothing about the Blues or the Rolling Stones before today, but I thought the talk was very interesting," said Katrina Small, 15, from Peebles High.

"I'll definitely be buying some though, I thought it sounded brilliant."

Jim Ellis, 14, from Selkirk, was also a convert.

"I've heard of the Rolling Stones but never bothered about them or Blues music," he said.

"I might hunt some of it down, the music sounded amazing."

Well that's at least 2 converts - doesn't take more than that to get the ball rolling.

They should tour as long as people love them and enjoy the shows. You don't dump your partner in life just because age is catching up. Same with the Stones.

Well there are $558,000,000 worldwide reasons why Bill is wrong on this point.

He does not say "out of time"; he says
"Besides, they still have this unmature lifestyle..."
...which could mean that Bill is ever-so-slighlty joking.

bills comments are foolish, why doesnt he quit then, his music is more pointless than the stones by far, nobody cares if bill wyman goes on tour, the whole world cares when the stones go out on the road

Outside of this board, not many people care one iota about the Rolling Stones.

smile: okay so melilo was exaggerating, but that's pretty serious counterexaggeration.

meanwhile, this just in from the Department of Historical Accuracy:

>> Keith is the one who said that he'll have 'He passed it on' on his tombstone. <<

what Keith has said is that that's what any musician can hope would be said of them and/or put on their tombstone.
he's said his own tombstone will read: "i told you i was sick!"

Unfortunately, when interviews are in print, you never know how serious a person is in his responses. Perhaps it was a young reporter and Bill was just goofing around with him and the reporter took him seriously? For all we know, he could have called up the band afterwards and all had a laugh about it.

Dumbest thing I've heard all day. Maybe all week. We'll see about the month.

Bill have said the same many times during several interviews. This interview is pretty accurate, and Bill is certainly not goofin' around here. In fact he said the same in an article mid 90's which pretty much tells it all - why he left. From IORR web pages Feb 1996 - soon 11 years ago:

Why Bill Wyman left The Rolling Stones

well they are called world tours arent they

...but true

Re: Bill Wyman on The Stones

LOL

Well, to be pedantic, 6 million people out of 6 billion is hardly 'the whole world caring' though.

Its only really a big deal in two continents, and most people in Africa and Asia would never have even heard of them.

or wyman for that matter, but really what i mean by a world tour is that they play all over the world thats all, not every inch of it of course, all i know is when the stones go on the road its all over the place on the news, not so for those rythym kings

Yes melillo, but the Rythym Kings have the freedom to perform what they themselves want to play, without having to subscribe to the same old greatest hits setlists that the Stones have become artistically thwarted and imprisoned by.

The Stones may tour "the world" but they've nothing knew to offer it.

That's because, as far as new material goes, "the world" switched off about a quarter of a century ago.

ok fair enough, but surely you are not comparing the rythym kings to the stones are you?
