68,000 during the first week and debuted at #39, Wandering Spirit debuted with 60,000 but it reached #11.
I don't think the best of could sell more than 15,000 copies in first week to be honest, GITD had loads of promotion, a single and video with airplay on the radio/VH1 and it was released on thanksgiving week. This best of had a couple of interviews, zero airplay on the radio and the sales since 2001 went down more than 50%. If it sells 15,000 copies it could reach #40-45 on the chart.
I love Mick--I really do--but I really don't understand his album cover choices sometimes...for his own work or for the Stones.
Why would you pick a picture of yourself for the cover of your album that makes you look like a cartoon character of a braying jackass? All he needs is a beat-up straw hat on to complete the picture.
First he looks like Yoda on the cover of 'Primitive Cool,' now this...
I find much of this funny. I listen to Mick's solo work becuase I appreciate him as an artist. His phrasing, how he sings, his lyrics, how he puts songs together, etc.
I think EVERYONE that saw the Stones on the ABB tour will buy a copy, so that's er ... some 2 or 3 million people is it ? In fact, because most of us tend to be a bit absent-minded, I suspect that we'll all buy a spare copy in case we lose one. So sales should be pretty good then huh ?
As an indication of its potential popularity, my good friend Billy, the local window cleaner, who is certainly NOT a big Stones fan, told me yesterday that he definetly intends to buy the album, citing the inclusion of Memo From Turner and Too Many Cooks as the main reason.
Looks like Mick could finally be reaching out to the masses!
i agree the album cover is bullshit. he still looks so good but very often not on official pictures. he must see hisself like that, like on the album cover, but to me that´s not really him.
It could surprise the crap out of us, and sell more than all of his solo albums did. A lot of non fans always gobble up greatest hits. Look how good JUMP BACK did once it was released in the USA?
Sad thing is, Wandering Spirit is a much better record than say Voodoo Lounge is... Well, so we go figure; and the figures go figure. And that's where it's gonna be at. Still, when that's said, WS is (probably) alot better a record than the best of will be. "Diplomatic you see"... Well I dunno about that, but that's the truth really, I suppose, and slightly diplomatic at that even.
respectfully disagree anderson: VL is classic stuff; a really fine album; that's how i felt about it; still do. moon is up. man a lot of those are great. a bit too long perhaps; but there's like at least 6-8 great tracks on that album imho; at least. they were honstly reaching out creatively with that one i theenk. a lot of cool and diverse and sensitive and creative material and execution. I really thought that a very good effort.
i also really like rj and lmds from abb. purty cool band, great singer. but i don't mean to change the subject. i raise to 14.
.....you know all the screamers who are demanding the vaults be opened should pray for a a big first week of sales and maybe personally purchase multiple versions of Mick's Best Of...............if only for the fact that if this CD sells it'll be on the strength of Too Many Cooks, and Memo.....and then you might see Mick getting real nostalgic about a lot of things very quickly......
I received my álbum now. It´s a great and especial editon with DVD. I love this CD.
I sing ... "Give me just another night, just another night with you Give me just another kiss, just before the dawn breaks through 'Cause I'm homesick, feel a little down and blue And I'm hurting, hurting baby just like you"....
and I sing... "If you just put your hand in mine We're gonna leave all our troubles behind Gonna walk and don't look back"...
