Darryl Jones - ABB versus the Licks tour

I don't think this topic has been tackled before - now I can only sit back and wait for Erik Snow to correct me ;-)

I saw only one concert during the Licks tour and two during the Bigger Bang, but luckily we have two heavy documents of both tours.

Last night I saw the Four Licks again and it struck me that Darryl Jones seemed to take a bigger part in the concerts then - seemed to be included more as "one of the gang".

This time around he mostly stood Bill Wyman-like at his designated part of the stage - not moving around much.

Only once during the four discs is he moved centrestage - during "Rain Fall Down", but that song was long gone before they hit Europe (I think?) - and generally he just seems to be "standing in the shadows"

Anyone agree or disagree?? ;-)

hmm, difficult? main difference is maybe that he gained some weight.

Don't know if the sound was very different.

I was not thinking about his sound - though that could also be an interesting subject ;-)

I was thinking more about whether he was "involved" on stage or more left out than previous tours??

A bit like Ronnie Wood who used to run around all over stage goofing about but now is mainly standing still concentrating on the job and leaving the leaping about to you know who ;-)

Yes, luckily he was talked into the Ampeg SVT rig...
Sounds more like rock and so thin and jazzy.

Though don't know why he's also now changing his
bass for every song. The best sounding is his
Precision Bass (which I thought it was a pre 70s fender
but he told me it's a Lakland) together with his
custom made Fender Jazz (the black one, Midnight R).

i never noticed Darryl running all over the stage - but this summer i noticed him
playing, singing, dancing, interacting with the band and throwing picks with cool symbols on them,
so no, i wouldn't say he seemed "uninvolved".

Ronnie meanwhile was all over the stage at the shows i was at,
and focussed at the same time - absolutely fine to behold.
