I remember "Never mind the Bullocks" was played over the PA prior to a Stones show way back when... I had never heard anything like the song "Bodies" (She was a girl from Birmingham...) before or since... they were a great one shot wonder for the time... I don't find them relevant today... Lydon must need the cash to get his rotten teeth fixed...

They were great back in the day. (saw 'em in Baton Rouge, Louisiana) but this reunion doesn't mean sh-t unless they put out a new record. Now that would make me raise an eyebrow.

Ah I wish Sex Pistols had ended for good in Winterland 1978,
the 1996 and 2002 reunion were pathetic.
Magnificent in the 70s....but that energy can't be brought back by TV-Rotten and his gang

Nowadays an old band could really make some news and announce they ain't gonna reunite and tour.

Actually, HAD they ended on Rotten's infamous "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?" line at Winterland in '78, that would have been absolutely perfect. Instead, they had to go and spoil it with a - frankly crap - reunion in '96 (not sure what was more embarassing - Rotten's clowning or steve Jones' leopard skin trousers), and an even more pointless one in 2002.

The Clash talked about reforming a few times, but never did, principally because they "didn't want to f.uck up anyone's memories". And they were offered more money than the Pistols were.

The thing is, for Lydon and Co, it is all about the money. They don't really have any. Lydon has a solo album (his second) he's trying to finish and get released (he's out of contract), so that's his only source of quick income.

The sad thing is, I consider the first two albums he did with Public Image to be way better than "Bollocks". Wish he'd reform PiL with Jah Wobble and Martin Atkins. That I'd pay to see.

"The worst mistake they ever made was the US tour in early '78 when they travelled across the American SOUTH! Who the hell booked that tour and what the @#$%& were they thinking? They played in places like TEXAS but skipped New York, Chicago, Detroit? "

Clearly, you just don't get it...that was the point! They would not play CBGBs, but they would do cowboy bars in the South. That was the ENTIRE POINT...that punk wasn't a movement, it was going against the grain. It was actually following in the 60s ideology of "be your own here", or to put it better "don't follow leaders, watch your parking meetaaws".

BTW...caught the Dallas show in a rundown warehouse in 96'. It was fantastic!

P.S. The Zeros & The Nuns opened that Winterland show. The Zeros reformed just a few months ago & did Italy/Spain.

Such a reunion *could* have given some good results, I agree
That Metal Box was a really good album
PiL was built on other things than transient rage of youth - as Pistols were... but it's a bigger name and more money to be made if touring as Sex Pistols

A friend of mine talked to Rotten about 3 weeks ago and apparently there are plans to play the US. As far as his needing money, he is loaded with cash. He has homes in Malibu and Marina Del Rey, right off the beach. He and his wife have made a small fortune off developing properties. Now the other 3 could use the money I'm sure.

I saw the 2003 tour and I liked it a lot. I'd definitely see them again.

Saw their reunion concert in Berlin in 1996 and loved it. Steve Jones is a guitar hero. And he was a much better guitarist then, than in 1977. The show lasted about 90 minutes and had all from Bollocks in, some single B-sides and a cover version of The Monkeys' Stepping Stone. During the secong encore (No Fun) Lydon was hit by a bottle and left the stage. That was fun!

There are rumors in the Pistols world that there will be a few shows around December and that the W. Coast is the most likely (prob. since J. Lydon lives in LA).

They wouldn't have HAD to play CBGBs. In New York, in '78, there would have been enough interest in the band to book them into the Beacon Theatre for several nights and they could have made some real money playing to people who really wanted to see them and not been all dejected and demoralized by the time they got to San Francisco. People in the South in the late 70s didn't want to see the goddamn Sex Pistols. They wanted to see the Allman Brothers and Marshall Tucker and the Outlaws and Charlie Daniels and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Touring the South wasn't "going against the grain", it was total career suicide for them!

I would have been quite happy to let Sid and Nancy (1986) be the final word on the Sex Pistols. Of course, I never would have gotten to see them if that had been the case.

Again...that was the point...and not terribly difficult to see either...they certainly didn't hide...and they've even talked about it since.

The point was to crash and burn and then go on tour 20 and 30 years later playing every song on their one and only album to ever-dwindling audiences who cared about it less and less? That was their Master Plan? I guess I really never will understand the punk ethos!
