O.T - The Sex Pistols to reform!

[news.bbc.co.uk]

Punk legends The Sex Pistols have announced a concert to mark the 30th anniversary of the release of their seminal album Never Mind the Bollocks.
Original members John Lydon, Steve Jones, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock will play at the Brixton Academy in London on 8 November.

The group, who split in 1978, first reformed for a world tour in 1996 and last performed together in 2003.

Tickets, costing £37.50, go on sale at 0900 BST on Friday.

Never Mind The Bollocks... Here's The Sex Pistols, which included God Save the Queen and Anarchy in the UK, caused uproar when it was released in October 1977.

Single campaign

But it was one of the defining records of the punk movement and is now recognised as one of the most influential albums in rock history.

It is to be reissued to tie in with the anniversary, and four singles - God Save the Queen, Anarchy in the UK, Pretty Vacant and Holidays In The Sun - will be re-released on vinyl.

The NME magazine is running a campaign to get God Save the Queen to number one in the UK after it missed out first time around.

It was originally banned by the BBC and ended up reaching number two at the time of the Queen's silver jubilee - although some theories say the chart was manipulated to avoid embarrassment.

I saw their reunionconcert about ten years ago. The band were good but Johnny Lydon was very bad. Made absolutely no effort to sing any of the songs the way they were originally sung. It was apparent they never did a sound check either. Often I couldn't recognise the song until a minute in. They did only the tracks from Never Mind The Bollocks and then split (ie, about 50 minutes).

The Sex Pistols to reform!

Quite possibly the least exciting news I've heard in decades. May the 8th November 2007 pass quickly, and then with luck they'll disappear into even deeper obscurity for hopefully another thirty years ! Waste of space !

Reform? What AGAIN?

Let me see - 1996, 2002, and now this year. Very boring.

Why doesn't Lydon reform PiL instead and play the whole of Metal Box? Now THAT I would pay money to see.

Wasn't the '96 tour a big dissapointment? I remember them leaving the stage at Roskilde Festival after just a couple of songs.

Well, can´t agree with that opinion.
I was 16 when I first heard God Save The Queen on the radio and I can tell you I had never heard anything like it before. I think both Johnny Rottens singing and the sound was very special, and still is.
This reunion thing though...can´t be anything but pathetic.

I saw them on their first reunion tour in 1996. I liked it, but not enough to see them again when they did a second reunion tour in 2003. I don't think many people even realize there WAS a second reunion tour in 2003.

amazes me how much they are hyped up whereas their forebears VU, stooges, New York Dolls, Monks were all but ignored by mainstream for decades. nowadays of course its a different story and the originals have lasted through. other pistol influnces stones/bowie/the who were obviously massive anyways, all of who did a similar thing far better imo.

I can remember the appeal at the time, the look, fights at school..1000s of soundalikes... they had fab production on that album alright.

I was 18 in '77, the right age to be a Sex Pistols fan, but I could never really take them seriously. In the best possible sense of the word, they were a joke. The worst mistake they ever made was the US tour in early '78 when they travelled across the American SOUTH! Who the hell booked that tour and what the @#$%& were they thinking? They played in places like TEXAS but skipped New York, Chicago, Detroit?

By '96 it was far, far, far too late. They really didn't even sound all that Punk anymore. They were almost more like a heavy metal band!

Wasn't the Rolling Stones song "Lies" dedicated to the Punk scene ?

I might be the only one of this board;
but I have always loved the Pistols. Let go
that Vicious boy was a little too much, but...

They changed the word as we knew it, and they
fell into the Chuckster-Keefster-tradition.
I also sense Doors, Who, Velvet, Ramones there..
Eddie Cochran, surf punk, and classic, rootsy blues...
Motörhead & primordial heavy rock...

Keep on bashin': ya know they are truly Great.

Loads of old duffers baboon! Ignore em! Pistols and the punk movement as a whole was probably the last great revolution.

No punk then no 'Some Girls'. Only the pressure from Punk brought on that change. You either survived aka: Stones or died ie: Prog. And thank the lord for that!
