dont know why people are getting so wound up over something like this.

I dont even know this MC... . From statements made, he has irritated people by comments relating to certain current and/or former members of the Stones on another website.

Interesting that some get so bothered about these comments that they engage in this behaviour on this thread. Is it REALLY worth all this? So he made disparaging comments, maybe yes, maybe not, but why spend the mental time and energy over fighting about it?

People make disparaging comments all the time about all kinds of things. What is it about this particular fellow and this particular issue that causes a number of you to react so vociferously?

I put the ring in my pocket
But there was a note
And my heart it jumped into my mouth

It read, "Darlin', I'm sorry to hurt you.
But I have no courage to speak to your face.
But I'm down in Virginia with your cousin Lou
There be no wedding today."

I think hardly anyone finds that an interesting question at this point. Personally, I think he quit because he didn't comprehend how wonderful his musical situation really was as a Rolling Stone-- he let his ego get in the way and failed to realize what his solo career would really be like.

This is a site for STONES FANS. You are not telling anyone anything new about Mick Taylor. If you wanted to lift the guy up then why not be more direct. How bout just coming out and saying "I love Taylor's playing on the original Exile track." I can respect you for a comment like that. But a backhanded compliment, or a snyde remark, just proves you are instigating a pissing competition.

No one was knocking Taylor before your comments. You just wanted to name drop and get a reaction. You feed on 'us'. Reminds me of an ex-roommate who would make alot of noise just to get noticed, rather than saying "Hey are you busy? I'd like to hangout."

There is not a single person on this message board who doesn't know who Mick Taylor is. You are not turning anyone onto his music, you are just picking a fight. And just to fuel your discussion... 1978 was the greatest Stones period/tour of all time.

My last responses to you all, who fail to see things the way i see them.

(and I'll try to be "NICE" for Cindy.....)

Cindy - Why do I care about Taylor & writing credits.. maybe it's because I
always go for the underdog or little guy.. I see his points that he has given
for quitting.

N. Phelge - So you think Taylor knew when he joined that he wouldn't get any writing credits, no matter what he contributed, that's just the way things were?

Oh really.. Guess Jagger didn't understand that as he told Taylor, numerous
times when it was just the two of them in studio "composing" that he (Taylor)
would get a writing credit on that one, and didn't when the album came out.
Taylor & Wyman used to comment to each other about that situation, a reason
both gave for quitting. Taylor wasn't this stupid kid in awe of the glimmer
twins, he knew what writing credits meant ($$$ in latter years)

Beast - So his ego got in the way and he should have just "kissed" the Glimmers
butts and thanked them everyday for letting him in the Stones. At least this
guy had the balls to stand up for what he thought was "RIGHT" He felt he was
getting screwed & used and after the 4th album of "contributing" and getting
one credit for: Ventilor Blues he did what few would do, walk away from
one of the greatest jobs around, for his "principals"
They are doing the same thing to Ronnie, and he just bends over and takes it.
His comments are: well things will work out down the road or whenever...
but he's banked alot more $$ than Taylor from touring,

Taylor currently is hurting for money.. would it hurt these guys to throw him a bone at this point, let him sit-in for a show or two to help him out??

So - we'll move on..

MLC: maybe you're right, but isn't that principle just a selfish one, really? Why is it commendable to quit over not getting enough personal recognition? I think a more righteous principle would be to choose to stay for the good of the music, regardless of personal frustration.

Having said all that, Taylor was a great guitarist and was great for the Stones. Regardless of his poverty (which is not the Stones fault -- Taylor chose that), I'd like to see him play with the Stones again, not out of pity and not to diss Woody, but just because I think it might be good to hear.

Finally, on the songwriting issue, I wasn't there and I have no idea what Taylor's contribution was. If he wrote lyrics and melody, then he deserves credit. If he came up with a riff, or a way or playing a chord progression or some other way of texturing the song and giving it a certain style, that's not necessarily songwriting. It might just as easily be seen as arranging/producing.

You point out correctly that both Taylor and Bill gave lack of songwriting credit as a reason for quitting. Yet, look at the entire body of work by both of them and ask yourself if that body of work supports the argument that they actually wrote JJF or Sway or whatever...

Last night I was kickin' back with a few friends, drinking some beers, watching the BBC Planet Earth series in high def, when suddenly we got into an argument about Star Wars. My argument was that George Lucas committed blasphemy when he put in that CGI singing number in Return of the Jedi (when they re-released the films in '97). My friend argued that the musical number was already in the original. We debated for a good 20 minutes and it was getting louder and louder. We were all laughing and it came to a head when I pointed out that we were all such nerds to be debating such a stupid topic.

Anyways... reminds me of this thread.

This thread is supposed to be about the movie. It's not a Taylor, Wood..songer writing debate. I just want to hear the details. The songs look fairly decent. I wonder if the songs are straight forward or do they have little snippets( say 1 minute clips) between songs to show the bands history. The trailer also seems to imply Marty having a bitch of a time setting it up, and it also shows the band rehearsing. I want details.

I am also curious if the songs are complete and not edited like they are in LETS SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER movie

" told Taylor, numerous

then how does anyone know what was said if there were no witnesses- nonsense!

I'm really looking forward to the movie- I can't believe I got paid to see the 2 best stones shows of the tour!!

COUSINLOU, congrats on your experience and thanks for sharing it.

any concerns about jumpy camera work.

Wish we were all there to see it--soon, soon.
