Good God! The @#$%& credits for the DVD read "additional recording by Pierre de Beauport." From this, we're deducing he plays the guitar parts just because it doesn't SOUND like Keith to somebody's ears. You might note that Pierre has had pre-production credits before and that additional recording credits frequently appear on Stones CD's (as well as other artists) and are credited to recording engineers. While its great this rumor is catching fire and others are starting to believe Pierre plays on more of the disc than Keith (or at all), we might want to wait until there's confirmation of the facts. Unless of course we want to also start telling people Andrew @#$%& Oldham plays guitar on all the tracks that say "Produced by." Sorry for being a dick, I normally respect Mathijs' opinions on just about everything, but I think he's way off base with this one and continuing to print this story as fact when its only speculation smacks of enormous ego and little else.

The reason why most people assume that Pierre did all overdubs is simply that there hasn't been a report of Keith doing overdubs (there has been various reports of Mick in the studio) and that it's stated on the DVD booklet that Pierre did do additional recordings. Also, several overdubs just simply do not sound like the way Keith plays nowadays.

Mathijs, I apologize for my tone. I do think highly of your knowledge and opinions and I know what you mean about the sound of the overdubs not being Keith's usual style these days (which I think of as the "Sad, Sad, Sad" solo being repeated ad nauseum), but the advent of Pro Tools and the ease of recording at home or in a hotel room means we're not likely to hear about overdubbing sessions any more. Its only fair to assume we're hearing Keith overdubbing his own guitar parts unless a source (not tHe sOuRcE!) says otherwise. I do believe the additional recording credit for Pierre means what it has always meant: he's the guy who engineered the overdubbing session. The same credit appears on albums like SOME GIRLS, EMOTIONAL RESCUE, DIRTY WORK, etc. and shouldn't be construed as suggesting anything else. If anything, I would put the difference in style down to Keith playing stone cold sober for a change.

However one thing is for shure:
the fluid riffs on Thumb, JJF etc are not played by Keith.
Neither live nor in studio . .

Well as long as you're sure, it must be fact.

Yes, there is an audience tape. And if you compare you'll notice
that most of the guitar work is redone. Especially some
Keith parts. But if you listen to the DVD you will find out
soon because of the big differences in what Keith plays.
One song flawless to brilliant and then, well...

BTW. it's an open secret that Pierre is doing not only the
overdubs in the studios. So what the hack, it's big business.

watching a dvd will never be the same as attending a show. So the dvd must be very interesting. To me the documentary dvd 4 and the bonus are must, especially "I can't be satisfied" (a club tour would be so great to play such stuff !). But the live shows are quickly boring if there is not something special to watch : guests and excellent show like atlantic city 89, excellent show like hampton 81, great stage like LA 75.

Would you like your wife shaming an orgasm ??! no I guess. So I can't be satisfied with overdubs since I know it is fake.
The problem is that Austin was a hard work, involving many people and was specifically recorded for the dvd.
And when the show is not perfect, they need overdubs.

The pity is that a show like Lyon this year was perfect. I would have not changed anything, no overdub requested.

It's not such a big problem to me - but- Keith is not nearly capable of playin such fluid guitar lines these days !
If you don't get that better stay to your bongos, Rocky! LoL

>> sssoul, for the record, although I accept them as a fact of life for most bands, I fret a little about overdubs,
especially when the show is good anyway. In the case of Austin,
I'd also like to have an accurate historical document of the evening, since I was there... <<

i can relate, Texas Fan!
my remark was to the person saying "just sit back and enjoy it without the need to over-analyze".
noting what's going on doesn't equal un-enjoyment - not necessarily, anyway.

have you had a chance to re-watch the show, Texas Fan? i did last night -
i even remembered that i intended to keep a closer eye on Ronnie at the start of UMT.
the way that bit is filmed doesn't make it easy, though.
