I don't think Mick's singing is bad at all, but I do think it should be dropped from the set. I remember when they used to alternate between Sympathy and Rambler on the Licks tour. It frustrated me to no end when I got Sympathy at both of the shows I attended (Detroit and Nashville). The song is fine but why play it every night when there's a perfectly good substitute...
can't believe they have yet to drop the stoooopid drum loop on this - been almost 2 decades now.... they've taken a once proud song and reduced it to a joke....
So if the Sunday Mirror report of next Sunday as the last big tour show, is true. I HOPE YOU HAVE TIME TO REFLECT ON THE FACT THAT YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO HEAR IT AGAIN. I personally will miss seeing them whatever they play,I have been a fan since 1963 and they have given me enormous pleasure whenever I have been lucky enough to get to see them live. You don't know what you have till it's gone
Most ticketholders only see them once during a tour, and it must be amazing to see Sympathy live with all the light effects and the flames. It's an important part of the show. But most important, it sounds great.

now that's no joke! 100% correct. there's a reason i've dubbed this Sympathy for Chuck Leavell . . .
The problem i have with it isnt' the drum loop (since they don't have percussionist any longer) or Mick's singing. The guitar solos are terrible. Keith hasn't played this song well in years and years. He can't seem to get it. He keeps playing in the relative minor key for some unknown reason and it just doesn't cut it. Then, near the end when Wood chimes in with the actual solo figure under Keith's solo it begins to sound better.
Keith needs to figure out his solo again in order to bring this tune under control.

For me SFTD was a great song, the recorded version and the live one on Ya Ya's, but when they added the electronic congas it was over for me ,l hated it.

The drum loop and Keiths lead guitar has killed the song. Instead of drum loops, they should dub in the original studio recorded lead, and let Keith kick back and pose.
If this were an actual petition I would not sign it. I can understand how STFD has gotten away from its roots but its still cool. Mick sings it just as good as anything else at the show, and he really gets into the dancing on this one. I dont have a problem with the drum loop. . I cant tell if its thoughout the song, to me it doenst dominate or take away from what theyre playing.
I really like Austin sympathy. Theres a footage of this kid dancing way in the back of the field. and then it cuts back to mick doing this dance where Hes on his tip toes but hunched over. yeah, I know that has nothing to do with the music, but I think its really cool.
