This is odd and relevant to the (off-)topic
I went to college in New England...
And the colloquial term there for a milkshake was a "cabinet".
I'll never understand how they got that.

From Bartleby.com

"To most Americans, a milk shake, that thick, sweet accompaniment to a hamburger and fries, naturally includes ice cream. But speakers in parts of New England make finer distinctions in their ice cream terminology. To a person living in Rhode Island or the adjoining part of Massachussetts, a milk shake consists of milk shaken up with flavored syrup and nothing more; if ice cream is included, the drink is called a cabinet, possibly, says food writer John F. Mariani in The Dictionary of American Food and Drink, named after the square wooden cabinet in which the mixer was encased. Farther north in New England, the same drink is called a velvet or a frappe (from French frapper, “to ice”)."

Nuthin' better than a pint of cold coozzzz duff on a hot Summer's day........ which means the last time I drank one of them in Blighty was in like a very, very, very longggggg time ago.

Hmmmmmmmmm.... actually there are two cool consumables that are better to imbibe than coozzzz duff:

1. Green and Black's organic vanilla ice cream
2. Homemade Italian ice cream.

What a load of crap.

These people are lying, and they are secretly funded by vegan, animal rights extremists.

It's one thing for a person to decide they like or don't like milk, it's quite another to push a hidden agenda using outright lies as these people are doing.

Just got home from the county fair and busted into some cold milk. Very refreshing.

For those who do drink milk, how many violate the household etiquette policy and drink out of the carton or jug when you invade the fridge? I always do.

What's the deal with the expiration dates? Are we to believe they know the exact date it will go bad? There are so many variables. If it's in one of those carboard containers and you open it, it will go bad quicker than if it's in a plastic bottle with a cap. And if you drink it one minute after midnight on the expiration date it is basically the same milk that was supposedly good just two minutes earlier.

My philosophy exactly. The date isn't a ticking time bomb, just a reminder that it's near the end of being comsumable.

Soy milk is much better for you overall. Soy protein vs. animal protein, plus the list of other nutrients is far superior compared to regular milk. It has everything milk has, plus so much more. Much easier to digest, no lactose issues, and just so much better for your body.

I love milk straight from the bottle in the fridge - usually in the middle of the night for some reason.

As for sell-by dates, the supermarkets always set them well on the safe side, and they are NO substitute for a good suspicious sniff. Kids will grow up unable to tell when food has "gone off" because they rely absolutely on sell-by dates.

Actually, they are. PETA is a VERY wealthy organization. You'd be shocked at how much they have in revenues. There's a reason why they court rich Hollywood movie stars and musicians like Paul McCartney. Don't be so naive.

i'm not naive at all - if it weren't for some rich movie stars giving them charity, and donations from a lot regular people, don't think they'd have very much money...anyway, i guess i'm not sure what their weird "agenda" might be.
anyway PETA is a little extreme for me too sometimes, but i think their hearts are in the right place...

hey i have nothing against milk !!!!! but unfortunately it's just not good for you sometimes - depending on the person - you just have to know what to eat and what not to eat, depending on yourself.

Had a vanilla Nesquik tonight. Not sure if it's a new product or if I just never noticed it before. Tasted great- like liquid white chocolate.

The date is to inform you when the milk begins to turn into cottage cheese.

Gotta love milk, it's the second most important ingredient in a white russian. And by itself it's pretty good for soothing the stomach the next day after too many shots and a greasy hamburger and fries consumed at 4 AM.
