Yeah the humor from Raymond was mostly derived from the brilliant writing in contrast to Seinfeld where the humor came from the ridiculous situations they got themselves into. Both were funny but imo Raymond was more well rounded (better writing, better acting etc.).

Plus Patricia Heaton (Debra Barone) was a nice little piece of eye candy smiling smiley.

I watched curb a couple of times when it first started and said to myself what the hell is this? A comedy but no laugh track so it seemed kind of strange and I really didn't think it was funny. Maybe I caught it at a bad time. Then they had a Curb marathon on HBO a few years ago and I watched a few episodes and got hooked. Luckily they show all the episodes on digital cable so I was able to go back and catch all the ones I missed.

are you kidding ? ;-) the stones never came to rochester - well, only once in the 60s when i was little - where unfortunately there was some bad violence in the crowd and a policeman lost an eye... i've always had to travel a bit to see the stones --- to either buffalo, syracuse, or toronto

they complain about that the superstore next door sells flowers as well and tah-kes their business.. that is also a sign of the times chain orgaizations og all that taking over and crushing the little man..
talking of immigrants : i work with a serbian girl 25 years who went home for her holidayas and .. to my request, saw stones there, loved it of course..

now it is gettin a bit colder here, autumn is looming,,
i brought some merchandice back home from copenhagen and gave my whole family,

What a shocker. A bunch of lefties that don't like George W. Bush lol. No doubt some dope will now accuse me of starting a political debate even though there are at least ten threads before this that had political themes to them.

Well, we gotta get this thread back on track! If this is TOO political, I'll edit, so let your sense of humour, not politics, govern your reactions - and I'll tie it to the thread AND the forum by saying it could serve as a guide for some fans as to what some fans can expect when traveling to London for the O2 concerts (so there!):

JOHN CLEESE'S LETTER TO AMERICA

2 November, 2006

To the citizens of the United States of America:

In light of your failure to elect a competent President of the USA and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective immediately. Her Sovereign Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths and other territories (excepting Kansas, which she does not fancy).

Your new prime minister, Tony Blair, will appoint a governor for America without the need for further elections. Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. A questionnaire may be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed. To aid in the transition to a British Crown Dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:

1. You should look up "revocation" in the Oxford English Dictionary. Then look up "aluminium," and check the pronunciation guide. You will be amazed at just how wrongly you have been pronouncing it. The letter 'U' will be reinstated in words such as 'colour,' 'favour' and 'neighbour.' Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without skipping half the letters, and the suffix "ize" will be replaced by the suffix "ise." You will learn that the suffix 'burgh' is pronounced 'burra'; you may elect to respell Pittsburgh as 'Pittsberg' if you find you simply can't cope with correct pronunciation.

2. There is no such thing as "US English." We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take account of the reinstated letter 'u' and the elimination of "-ize."

3. You will relearn your original national anthem, "God Save The Queen".

4. July 4th will no longer be celebrated as a holiday. November 2nd will be a new national holiday, but to be celebrated only in England. It will be called "Come-Uppance Day."

5. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not adult enough to be independent. Guns should only be handled by adults. If you're not adult enough to sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist then you're not grown up enough to handle a gun.

6. Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. A permit will be required if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public.

7. All American cars are hereby banned. They are crap and this is for your own good. When we show you German cars, you will understand what we mean. All intersections will be replaced with roundabouts, and you will start driving on the left with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric immediately and without the benefit of conversion tables. Both roundabouts and metrication will help you understand the British sense of humour.

8. The Former USA will adopt UK prices on petrol (which you have been calling "gasoline") -roughly $6/US gallon. Get used to it.

9. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call French fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called "crisps." Real chips are thick cut, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with mayonnaise but with vinegar.

10. Waiters and waitresses will be trained to be more aggressive with customers.

11. The cold tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all. Henceforth, only proper British Bitter will be referred to as "beer," and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as "Lager." American brands will be referred to as "Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine," so that all can be sold without risk of further confusion.

12. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as good guys. Hollywood will also be required to cast English actors to play English characters. Watching Andie MacDowell attempt English dialogue in "Four Weddings and a Funeral" was an experience akin to having one's ears removed with a cheese grater.

13. You will cease playing American "football." There is only one kind of proper football; you call it "soccer." Those of you brave enough will, in time, will be allowed to play rugby (which has some similarities to American "football", but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like a bunch of nancies). Further, you will stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the "World Series" for a game which is not played outside of America. Since only 2.1% of you are aware that there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable.

14. You must tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us mad.

15. An internal revenue agent from Her Majesty's Government will be with you shortly to ensure the acquisition of all monies due backdated to 1776.

Thank you for your co-operation.

John Cleese

Yeah - Canada got jabbed here too, by failing to recognise our superior beer or inferior baseball team...

Canadians comics, for some reason i just remembered two more !

there used to be this really funny canadian stand-up comic on tv named norm macdonald who used to say some standard joke like:
Well, you guys in the States like to say: "Hey, We're Number One!!"
Here in Canada we like to say: "Hey !! We're a Number!!"

and then what about the screamingly funny SCTV (or was that from Chicago...?) Can't remember many names right now but John Candy was definitely one of them --
and isn't that where the astonishing Bob and Doug MacKenzie started :-)))

Re: different types of humor

If you guys just followed the rules you wouldn't have to worry about me calling you lefty/pinko etc. I usually don't say anything when people poke fun at Bush because he provides much material for people to poke fun at him with, but when you start getting into what president is good and which are bad then you are getting into the area of politics.

You have been here less than two months Heinz? Maybe you should read the rules and try to abide by them? Don't get me wrong I can talk politics all day long but it is clearly not allowed here.

Also a little confused as to what the suburbs of the U.S. have to do with anything but I'm glad you're not living in the U.S. loochie since you seem to be happy where you are and if you were here you would cancel the vote of an intelligent right winger lol. So it's a win win situation.

Check out the DVD the "Aristocrats", then we can REALLY have a debate on what is humor.

Also someone mentioned Get Smart earlier in the thread, they are making a movie with Steve Carell playing Maxwell Smart. Not sure if Mel Brooks is involved
