What is the best non Stones concert you have been to? For me it would be a tie between Rush and Roger Daltrey. I saw Rush back in 86' at the Meadowlands and saw Roger Daltrey solo in 85' at The Garden. Both great shows. What about you?

I've been to a lot of good concerts. Recently I saw Mavis Staples in Stockholm and that was a very good concert. I also rank all Marianne Faithfull concerts among the best, but the best of them all are the concerts with the danish group Savage Rose. I've been to four, so far, and I rank the one in Oslo in 2003 the absolute best one. It is possible that I like these concert also because they are in "intimate" settings - where you come close to the performers and where the contact between the performer and the audience is very obvious. I'm not a fan of big arena shows - even though they can be good - they are so abstract. When all you see is what is shown on the big screen, at least I lose the feeling of actually seeing the performer in action. I guess that is what makes it possible to tour around the world with those Elvis Presley shows. When all you see is on the screen, the performer don't need to be there....Maybe that's the future for a lot of bands when they are too old, or lazy, to tour?

Young was Nico's keyboard player, and his memoir is alternately hilarious and harrowing. In the US it was titled THE END but the EU title was SONGS THEY NEVER PLAY ON THE RADIO. Essential if you're interested in latter-day Nico (or just crazy-ass junky rock bands on the road).
