What's the Stones' signature song?

See title.
I'm not asking what your favourite song is, but which one best defines 'Stones music' to you?

I'd go for JJF.

The most well known would still be satisfaction. Example, when watching the superbowl a few years ago with my dad and his friends, all between 75 and 80, When the Stones did Satisfaction in their 3 song set, they all aknowledged that was the one song they knew from the Stones.
As Stones fans, we can make many arguments for this, but the most universally known, which I guess to me would be the same as the song that best definds them, I would have to say Satisfaction, and no, its not nearly my favorite.

satisfaction is their signature song, hands down.

And JJF!!!

I think satisfaction is even more so. No other song is so recognizalbe and closely associated with any other artist IMO. Maybe Dylan and LARS has that too.

now that I think about it, I know its a compleley different genre but the Beastie Boys "Fight For Your Right To Party" has that quality too. THey have large body of work, but that song is the one that stands out.

Satisfaction & JJF are siblings arent they?

Brown Sugar

That is by far the song the performed most often. It sound is soo recognisably Stones.

Its not the song i think is best or the one I like most, but to me its THE signature song.

Songs like JJF and Satisfaction stand out too much to be a signature song for me.

I think this fellas question is being answered two-dimensionally.

I think what he's really saying is:

"What Rolling Stones song represents how they sound to you?"

HTW. That was the beginning of Keith's endless line of open G riffs!

Satisfaction is no doubt the most famous song.

But if the signature song is the song that most describes what the band is about or gives an idea of the sound they defined, then either Brown Sugar or JJF have to win the day.

[I Can't Get No]Satisfaction: it has it all

Brown Sugar. How many shows have they done since it first came out (1971?) without it?

in that case I might go with All Down The Line including live versions. Its this certian combination of rock and soul that only the stones do.

Nuff said, but I'll chime in anyway. It has elements of all the influences, styles etc. which make up Rolling Stones music. Redundancy Rules! Cheers!

a lot of casual stones fans or non stones fans think satisfaction is the best they ever done.

which is so untrue.

as for the stones signiture tune.

has to be jumpin jack flash.

Well, yeah, that's about what I meant ;-).
Just imagine someone who never heard the Stones asks you to let them hear 1 song that gives them the best idea what they sound like.

So that doesn't necessarily have to be your favourite song or their most famous one (Satisfaction, without a doubt).

...hey 5string how's it going? (again, what kind of mother names her child 5string?).......my vote goes for Satisfaction. It is the first Stones song I remember hearing. I guess I was 8 years old when I first heard it (in 1966?) when my school buddy's Mom was dancing in their kitchen to Satisfaction on the radio......and she was hot!!! I'll never forget that moment. Charles, my buddy, wanted to go outside to play. I remember saying, "I'll be with you in a minute. I'm gonna hang out in the kitchen for a few more minutes."

I'd probably go with the majority and say Satisfaction. However, Gimme Shelter deserves consideration, in my opinion.

And maybe the best known guitar-riff ever next to The "Smoke on the Water" riff

Well, Lukester, She is the best of Moms! And I know of school buddy's moms. Torture to young boys. Now-- as for Satisfaction and JJF I may concede to a tie. You could start either song with the same riff and it would work. Think about it! Anyway as we say down here--How's You? Cheers! 5

I'd have to with JJF. It's the signature song and riff for these boys. BS and ICGNS are probably very close. But flash just says STONES.smiling smiley
