Laugh I Nearly Died/Already Over Me

I finnaly got around to buying Bridges To bablyon album, it has some good stuff on it. I have a new perspective on Laugh I nearly died. It isn't as origional sounding as I used to think. To my ears, it heavily borrows from Already Over Me. although the chrous is different, the music in the verses is very similar. Theres also a line in AOM that goes "when you laugh i just cry/ When you left I just died"

You're spot on Ryanpow. The first time I played ABB it bugged me as I couldn't quite suss what it reminded me of. It was only about a week later the penny dropped.

"I'll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon."

thats probably the reason Laugh I nearly died won't be played live. at least streets of love isn't like a re-make of an older song..I think already over me is quite good BTW.

SOL is a remake of Jagger's solo Brand New Set of Rules, actually.

B2B and abb are good albums, B2B is probably more innovative. Lind is fantastic, it is far more than a remake, and the reasons why it is not played live are that the Stones do not have the courage or the wish to play great new songs, and that they do not want to practise them.

I THINK THEY'RE SIMILAR, BUT LAUGH I NEARLY DIED IT SOUNDS BETTER !!! - I PREFER THIS LAST ONE; IT REMINDED ME WHEN I WAS 13, TATOO YOU - THE SLOW SIDE - A SONG CALLED HEAVEN (I SUPPOSE), JUST THE SENSATION, THE FEELING AND THE ATHMOSPHERE THAT SONG EVOCATED IN ME, NOT THE NOTES SEQUENCE.
ANYWAY, I JUST LIKED TO MARK MY POINT OF VIEW ON LAUGH I NEARLY DIED - WHICH I LOVE A LOT.
BYE GUYS

intersting you bring up tattoo you because Micks signing reminded me of tops (in this case I thought it was a good thing, I didnt see it as a rip-off). When he goes I nearly die-ie-ee-iei-ei-e-ed sounds like "Because I-I-I-II..." in tops. the way he streches out the words and his voice trails off.

Hardly a criteria. If they used that yardstick, many of their best known songs wouldnt be played live.

at least streets of love

The "I-I-I-I" bit doesnt remind you of "out of tears"?

I think

LIND is far better.

theyve used it before. when asked why they wouldnt preform Silver train, Ketih said It sounded too much like all down the line.

Yep..thats right..in 1973, with the added proviso "when played live" - but this is a man who on this tour has started playing the intro to "Rough Justice" (which he'd already performed an hour earlier) instead of "ONNYA".

A lot of Stones songs arent that different.

When you've done as many songs as the stones I think it is impossible to not have any of them sound similar. By the way, Already over me is much better than Laugh I almost died!

who would listen to "Already Over Me" unless you're just getting the album now? probably very few people, so it's not a problem.

Looking back on this thread, I see that I drew some additional conclusions that are somewhat dubious such as why its not played live, or weather other songs that were 'remake'. This caused it to kind of get sidetracked. My main idea is that when ABB came out, lots of people, including myself praised LIND for being origional. In light of hearing B2B, I no longer think this is the case. Its territory they've already covered, and I stand by this point. although my opinion is altered that doenst mean LIND isnt a good song.

Mick sings far better on Already Over Me. But Laugh I nearly Died is great too, both great latter-day ballads.

I like both songs but I think Already Over Me is the better of the two.

"Lyin' awake in a cold, cold sweat. Am I overdrawn, am I going in debt?
It gets worse, the older that you get. No escape from the state of confusion I'm in.

I believe he said that because "All Down The Line" was a kind of regular set number at the time, and people were familiar with the song. That's not the case with "Already Over Me".

don't really hear much similarities between AOM and LIND, aside from the annoying mick vocal styling. LIND sounds like a half-baked song, too - and is in vital need of some meaningful contribution from the other glimmer.\

SOL is definitely a warmed over version of Brand New Set of Rules....i could almost make the argument that 80% of ABB is a sequel to GITD, in fact.

No doubt about it. First thought that came to mind when I first heard SOL.

its showing some promise, but still needs to age. Id recomend waiting to listen to it in about eight years.
