There are plenty of Rolling Stones NYC locations. They were there a lot.

As far as famous photos or video shoots. I can't think of any but I know there are more. They shot several videos in NYC didn't they?

"Hey, what am I doing standing here on the corner of
West 8th Street and 6th Avenue and

You're asking me

Nothing. Keith! Watcha, watcha doing? (whistle)
Oh, I think the time has come to get out, get out

Get up, get out, get into something new!"

Gray's Papaya Restaurant, 6th Avenue and West 8th Street, Manhattan.

Yes, first counting the just-below sidewalk-level "Garden Level" floor.
Entrance to garden level apartment would be under the front stoop.

Sadly, this street is a pedestrian as any other street now. There isn't much rock and roll left there and hasn't been for almost 20 years.

Here's the explanation:

"Physical Graffiti’s cover photo, designed by Peter Corriston features a stylised photograph of a New York City tenement block of two five-storey buildings located at 96 and 98 St. Mark’s Place in New York City. Corriston shot the five-story buildings as they were, but in order to fit them properly for the cover art he had to crop out the entire fourth floor; so eventually the album cover shows four stories instead of five. Corriston also did some notable work on some famous Rolling Stones album covers such as Some Girls, Emotional Rescue and Tattoo You, for which he won a Grammy Award in the category of ‘The Best Album Package’".

thumbs up

Wonder what those two guys on the separate staircases are talking about?
Maybe discussing the noisy rock and roll racket being played inside?

"It's been a long time since I rock and rolled..."

Turn that crap down! smiling smiley

Waiting On A Friend
1981 Video Shoot in East Village

After college I moved to New York CIty, where my friend and classmate PK had also moved. PK got a job as an assistant to a famous fashion photographer. And when the Rolling Stones hired that photographer, suddenly PK was on tour with the Stones! I could not believe it! I begged PK to tell me where the Stones were rehearsing in NYC. But he said that he was sworn to secrecy, and he wasn't allowed to tell.

But one afternoon, the phone rang and it was PK calling. "Whatever it is that you're doing..." he said, "Just drop it. Grab your camera and get over here to St. Mark's Bar and Grill now. The Rolling Stones are here shooting a video!"

I ran out and sure enough, there they were: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, just hanging out on a stoop. It was their shoot for "Waiting On A Friend." Keith actually walked right by me. And I thought what I could possibly say to one of my guitar heroes, Keith Richards? I said simply, "Keith, can I shake your hand?" He came over and extended his right hand, while he ran his other hand through his messy hair.

Later, after it was dark, the Stones were taking a break on their tour bus, which was parked next to the bar. The door to the bus opened, and PK stepped out. He walked over to me, and he handed me a unusual-looking cigarette hand rolled with leopard-skin paper. It was still burning. He said it was from Keith. As I held it, I was torn. Should I save this or smoke this? I wondered. On one hand, I thought: Keith would want me to smoke it. On the other hand, if I saved it forever, it would make a great momento. I won't tell you which I chose...

Thanks for sharing I'd never seen them. I wonder if that video isn't the last time Mick and Keith displayed their friendship in public ?
