Another memory:

Ronnie was at the back of the bus (the bathroom). The crowd went crazy! Jo came in, blocking the window with her back so people couldn't see Ronnie taking care of his business. Afterwards, he good naturedly opened the window... someone remarked that he couldn't even take a leak in private... Ronnie replied "Ahh.. who needs to piss in private."

From the Vault I had much better stuff to offer from 1978 and they had no interest. I even had the 7:30 SNL dress rehearsal show which was so much better then the 11:30 PM live airing (Jagger's voice was still OK then) and they had 0 interest.
I even offered it ( with the whole band skit "not in the 11:30 show"winking smiley to SNL for one of their "retro specials", they showed a little interest, but never went for it in the end??... Not sure why?? Could be they needed the Stones OK.

hey, VJ. 1978 was my first tour, what kinda cool stuff do you have? and do you know anything about the "Stones VHS" of Let It Rock from chicago that's on you tube? is it the whole july 8th show.

Years later, I spoke to my friend about that famous day. He told me that Arthur Elgort (the photographer he was working for) was not a Stones fan. Inside the bar Mick was getting pissy about something, and Arthur said to Mick that he was "no Duke"! (as in Ellington.)
(I wonder if Mick said "Well, you're no Stiglitz!" )

As to what they played in the bar he said that he couldn't remember shit after a few tokes on the leopard themed hash joint. He had to remember to get all the equipment back home.

I've never seen any photos by AE from that day. Would love to

I was there too ... well, not really.

Great story, schillid. I was going to the city a lot then - restaurants, bootleg shopping, etc. After we saw the video we made a point to go there, so I was probably a few months late.

I recall we also made a point to go to the corner of W. 8th St. & 6th Avenue (i.e. in Dance lyrics) - which was very close to our favorite bootleg store, Revolver Records. I believe that store is still there (it was as of 3 or 4 years ago).
