Just downloaded Down the Road Apiece from Phili 26.9.81. I was always curious about how they did this on this tour (didn't do it in '82) as the Stones’ original of this classic is one of my favourites of theirs (just listen to the rhythm section go!). I also love the guitar breaks though and always thought it was Keith on the original (rather than Brian) but it sounds like Ronnie does them live in 81. Can anyone confirm who did what and when?

The 1981 versions are fantastic. The energy, the boogie piano, the waving guitars just beautiful. I don"t know why on earth they stopped playing it after 3 or 4 occasions on the 1981-82 tour.

Keith broke his string at the beginning of Down the Road Apiece in Phila 81, so essentially Keith was not on it. A crying shame, really. They also did Mona that show or next day in Phila.
