Hi'

How does he play it?
Does anybody know a place where I can find the tab - not just the chords?

Classic OpenG-tuning. Keith´s guitar made the stones´version great.

It sure did!

I have tried the G, but I can't make out how he takes chords like F and Dm(7) ?

Hello.
You tune the 5 strings guitar into open G ( G D G B D )
and put a Capo on the 5th position The song is played in C key.
Do you see the light ???
You have to use a Lee Oskar Harmonic in F key for the Harp solo.
Good Luck
B.T.W when the Capo is on the 5th position.
You can check your ( fine tune) your tuning on your guitar tuner (Digital)
it should read on your tuner C G C E G . that is why the song is in C .in case you wonder....

He only takes major chords. D instead of Dm(7).

There is a minor chord(s) in that song. So Keith changed it you think?

There are fingerings for various minor chords in Open G...but, [without getting technical] Keith will very often not hit the notes that make a chord minor or major. The major or minor character of the chord will be portrayed by other instruments in the arrangement.
The charcter of open G is that if you hit just the bottom three strings or if you mute the 2nd string. ..the chord is neither minor not major. In fact it's not really a chord at all because there are only two different notes there !

There's actually a lot of major/minor ambiguity in blues and rock music...it's quite a big part of it's character actually.

Keith can easily do minor chords in open G. Just listen to Wild Horses on Stripped and tell me that he can't! In (6 string) open G you play this (no capo) to get an Am chord.

2
1
2
2
x
x

To get a Dm chord you play:

3
3
2
0
x
0

And to get a Bm you play:

0
3
4
4
X
X

Transpose to the key of C with a capo and you have the Am -> Dm and Bm -> Em (i.e. all you need for LARS.

He CAN but I still don\'t believe he does in this particular song, like Spud said.

no one (i think) has said he *can't* - just that he doesn't, in many cases.

By the way, whenever I type an apostrophe, after sending the message, an \\ is added before the apostrophe. It\'s (see) driving me mad!

Hi Ian,
have you been affected by the bad weather lately?
I saw on the news that there was lots of water in your region.

or a different keyboard?

I don`t think that matters: it is not added immediately after typing. It is added after the message is sent.

it didn't happen that time (look at your "don't").
you've switched to a different apostrophe?

Hi Kalle,

Yes there's been lots of water and a few dampened spirits. We weren't affected but lots of people were, most of the bad stuff happened to people in Hull, which is about 20 miles away from me.

It didn't stop a great turnout for our gig on Saturday though. This was our setlist:-

SOUNDCHECK
When The Whip Comes Down

SET ONE
Jumping Jack Flash
Not Fade Away
Spider and the Fly
Paint It Black
Dead Flowers
Little Red Rooster
Just My Imagination
19th Nervous Breakdown
Get Off My Cloud
All Over Now

SET TWO
Start Me Up
Honky Tonk Women
Brown Sugar
Satisfaction
Miss You
YCAGWYW
Stop Breaking Down
Sympathy for the Devil
Around and Around
It's Only Rock & Roll
Gimme Shelter

I think everyone was glad that the rain had stopped - it was actually sunny for most of the day. There's nothing like a few Rolling Stones songs to lift your spirits! ;-)
