more or less 45.000, capacity 60.000

Before the show a security guy told me that on monday, June 4, only 20.000 tickets had been sold. There were maybe more on the field, but 45.000 would mean that the ticket sales went pretty fast in the last week, Can hardly believe that!

Who cares how many seats are sold. The only number I care about is the two I use.

There were no seats sold this night, Nijmegen was an all stander, especially after the rain! ;-)

No articles in my newspaper, De Volkskrant. They had an item yesterday, "are you still going to the Stones", but that's it.

I counted 87 in the pictures I've seen. There were probably a few more out of shot.

Who cares, there were obviously enough!

As far as I can see, ticket sales have been fine. They could have been better. We've spent weeks discussing the reasons and the factors that haven't helped.
I can only conclude that since the tour "wasn't marketed", since everybody is "fed up with the Stones" and "ticket prices are ridiculous"...they've held up pretty well ;^)

You gotta be kidding! A band that less than 10 years ago sold out multiple shows within minutes is now having trouble selling out single shows. They are having a season like Feyenoord, in potential the biggest team in Holland but being in serious trouble to make it all come true.

the stones toured in 89 90 94 95 97 98 99 92 93 05 06 07
in the past 20 years and they will have sold more than 6 million tix after abb
so what are you talking about
you never sell out a tour cause you can not sell out a tour
especially not in the european area when concerts sometimes take place on fields
in the middle of fukkin nowhere

as Spud has pointed out elsewhere ... what's so great about shows selling out within minutes?
that might be a rush for the lucky people who get tickets, but it's not much fun for the ones left behind in the dust.

but if people perceive slower sales as a bad thing, reflecting an error in judgement
of what large numbers of people are willing to pay to be at Stones shows, then ... [scratching dinosaur brain] ...
shouldn't we be *pleased* about that? aren't smaller gigs and reduced prices what people have been agitating for??
look at the Frankfurt situation: they've reduced the capacity and added a lower price range -
isn't that a victory for the fans who are really adamant about not paying loony prices??
but a lot of people react as if that were some kind of disgrace or scandal or something.
i mean: i understand the dismay of people who rushed to buy the tickets at the original high prices,
but why did we do that, if it's not what we were willing to pay??

sigh: i know i know.
really what we all wish is that the Rolling Stones were our local pub band. but they're not.

Wrong! Ever heard about Schuttorf 1995? They sold 80.000 tickets for a place in the middle of nowhere, it's not even on a map.

They may not sell out a tour 100%, but if this one hits 60% it's a lot and therefor disappointing.

has that been the show that volkswagen bought ????
thats your answer then

and in 1995 people have been different
today people want convenience
and it is also a fact that the stones fans aged a lot since 1995
for sure people prefer shows in stadiums in a big town

I would assume 40,000 - 50,000. It was hard to move around, and it /the crowd was bigger than Werchter. Probably 45,000.

Nope, that was not a Volkswagen show. According to figures on IORR the audience was 80.000.

then this has been the show near mannheim?
not in the middle of nowhere
but anyway
people in the 90s have been different
it is way harder to play outside cities these days especially for a band like that rolling stones that has fans in their 50s and 60s
for sure nobody knows why michael cohl books a venue like werchter
I guess because it is extremely cheap

Could be and I agree with you about your remark about the fans. Also yesterday many fans in their 50s.

Schuttorf is not near Mannheim, it's near nowhere. The show was just on a piece of land and that was it. It was so damn hot that day that around 5 pm all beer was gone, another hour later Cola and Sprite were finished, just water left.

It was Wolfsburg, parking lot, sold 90.000 tickets in three days! BTW. tickets cost 60DM = 30 Euro! But as they are not interested in more fans they are after more money.

I can't understand these greedy bustards. They could have sold the tickets in Nijmegen for let's say 40 Euro. You don't need to have studied math to know that they might have more bucks with 70.000 people instead of 25.000 (no more in Nijmegen). What the heck, so at least you'll a theater show in Frankfurt for 190 Euro!

... 25.000 (no more in Nijmegen) ...

As far as I could see the place was PACKED, and according to security there were another 5000 looking over the fence, so .. what is all this crap about poor sales?

I don't know, how many people have been in Nijmegen yesterday. The FOS-section was full :-)

But to Schuttorf 1995 I can tell you something:
- it is a field in the middle of nowhere, at the frontier of Germany and the Netherlands, between Osnabruck and Enschede. It was the Voodoo Lounge Tour, but not the Volkswagen concert
- Volkswagen has its place in Wolfsburg, nearly 100km east of Hannover. And there was a concert on the parking lot in front of the factory on Friday August 25th 1995. This was my very first Rolling Stones moment by the way :-)

august 12 ?

I guess it was August 12, could have been any date, check IORR for older tours. I'm still thirsty from that show.

And to Jos: sure the field in Nijmegen looked packed, but did you noticed that the field was much smaller than it could have been.

In the mean time no one is giving official figures about how many people were there yesterday. Not even De Telegraaf is given figures.

judging by the amount of time it took to leave the venue, i'd be shocked if there were more than 30,000. (it was very quick.)

then again, 29,999 of them were behind me, so i couldn't give you an estimate! smiling smiley

that may be a significant statistic in an arena or a stadium with a fixed capacity, but for a field show you can adjust the perimiter fencing/boundaries of the field to suit the size of the crowd, whether its 20,000 or 100,000
