I believe it' true that the Stones still have contract obligations to full fill from last year.
but I also believe they want to tour and not because they have to.
It would be dead easy to wimp out of the contract if they didn't want to perform.
Each of the four Stones could state health issues as a reason and no one could seriously doubt that.

arthritis, concussion, cancer, laringitis, alcoholism etc. - choose one.

At least in Germany nobody is interested to get the cancelled gigs
as we ARE ripped off with 190Euro tickets! That's the real life!

Yes they did: In former times The Stones sold out their shows in nothing but a minute. Today they are only performing in front of a few people, mostly of their ages cause other's can't afford their extraordinary ticket prices. In Germany, where they have played the most shows of all European countries, the shows are again shortly before being cancelled because of the very bad ticket sells. The Stones will play 3 shows in Germany. Tickets are still available for all categories. Those who want to go last minute are better of to wait until last minute, when tickets will be available for 60 Euro or even less.

No tickets available at eventim.de for the Frankfurt show at the moment.

It says so on the setlist, but thats's not correct. It was played in B, capo on the 4th fret. Keith sang pretty high. Did a good job at that (after he clearly could not remember how to start the song on guitar).

S'pose it's possible that it was to have been in A and the capo got put on the wrong fret ! ..leaving the whole band a bit puzzled at the start.
Keith's done the tune in A quite a bit in recent years. Guess it depends on how his voice is at the time.

Not true, just a bit carried away this time.
None have brought us more "fun" when it comes to talk about guitar playing here.
We all want him to continue.
Me think...

If the Stones should continue or not is taste. Get a bad beer Friday, try get another one Saturday. Could be better, great or worse. If you love beer you don't give it up. Could be some bad ones in the future, but also some great ones.

So why did you then went to see at least 80 'Flip the Switch' shows? Mark, you're a sad person. I did not expect this from you.

As far as I can recall this is a threat for Nijmegen set lists and reports and not for personel fights. If you go to that level I encourage you to go via e-mail.

I did not make any comments on the quality of playing, as I wasn't at the shows, nor do I feel the need to listen to the music through movies or audience tapes.

But I am a bit amazed, and maybe even a bit shocked, at how the Stones looked. First of the Las Vegas dressing style, then the wig of Wood, I couldn't help thinking it reminded me of a very fat Elvis in a jump suit, or a very old Frank Sinatra with a little toupet and false teeth, forgetting his lyrics and slurring the words. Then I saw the little clips of Keith, whom looked just totally wasted....

Anyway, enjoy the shows, I will limit myself to the topic of guitars!

Happy now?

No he's probably not an idiot, but a pretty annoying fellow dutchman for it.

The fact that he's logging in just to say the tour is useless on a thread called "Nijmegen set list and report" and with that completely directing the thread off-topic to the usual even more useless discussion on setlists, is a proove for this.

In the thread on Werchter I've asked several times to put that off-topic discussion in a different thread so that you don't get 18 pages in no-time, 3 of which actually contain on-topic information.

If press or others that just want to be informed of what's happening/happened check iorr they'll be unpleasantly surprised with the searching they have to do through the pages of whining. They'll check elsewhere. This devaluates the forum.

And that's because some people just find it necessary to over and over again stir up everything with these mottos of theirs that they've expressed more than the Stones did Tumbling Dice.

I for one am glad I was near the b-stage yesterday singing along with a beautiful choir to the chorus of It's All Over Now.

I have to go now, but in the evening I'll write a decent report of yesterday, which all but started when I entered the field at 20:48, just 10 minutes before the opening chords of Start Me Up.

CU tonight.

Yes, sorry about that. But I am just a bit shocked that a person whom I've known for years, and who've always been very close to the band, can suddenly turn his back to you like this once he doesn't need you anymore for free tickets or whatever. I'm just a bit disapointed I guess.

Mathijs feel free to give your opinion about any (upcoming shows) shows, or other relevant topics. It is a discussion board.

This "Gomper" idiot is just to stupid and irrelevant to even mention him.

Theoretically thats actually not what happened. They first of all postponed the shows last June, and then a week or two later announced that they were cancelled, and refunds were given . There was unofficial talk - which later proved to be accurate - that they were going to return in 2007, but even as late as the turn of the year this was still NOT 100% certain. For every 2 people who I'd consider to be reliable insiders who were telling me they would tour this summer, there was another one who were insisting it was, if anything, unlikely. Reading between the lines and seeing how late these new shows were actually confirmed (10 months after they had been cancelled in the first place), it would certainly appear that there was some internal disagreements as to whether they figured it was worth their while to do a 2007 tour.

And they didnt make up for 'all' the cancelled shows. Whilst new dates were added to make the tour a more profitable venture, some of the shows from last year did NOT get new dates (Athens being a prime example) and some of the shows were moved to new locations (the Belgian show moved from Brussels to werchter for example)

Mathijs, I'm still thinking about your Tokyo 2006 analysis and I really have to agree this time! I watched the Nijmegen show yesterday and although everything seemed to turn out fine at first (Van Morrisson opening, an amazing setlist), it turned into a massive disappointment afterwards.

I got really worried when I caught Ron on the video screen. He couldn't play a thing last night, it really was a shame.

And even Keith didn't get the rhythm down on surefire crowdpleasers like Brown Sugar. When I watched him on the B-stage (all in all one of the few highlights yesterday), his stare seemed distracted and confused.

Many tracks, like Sweet Virginia were shaking from the beginning, as if everybody was searching for their individual "tracks" first, and Sympathy For The Devil consisted of computer drums and Keyboards solely, apart from some uninspired guitar strokes during the refrain.

Yes, there was some fine singing yesterday. Mick Jagger was stunning and truly professional, Lisa Fisher's lead break was - well - mighty and even Keith's voice surprised during Happy. But all in all, I must say, it was a worrying mess and I really hope they'll recover. Cause otherwise they'll finish on a low point.

I'd like some of the folks around here [and many collect boots and should know] to tell me when the Stones weren't regularly shambolic on stage ?

30 years ago they could seldom be bothered to tune up properly before the show...let alone play in tune or in time throughout the proceedings !

It's largely down to that strange and unique entity which is Keith Richards.
[Ronnie's just followed him down the same road]

The Rolling Stones have always been a load of old rubbish...the most gloriously fantastic and amazing load of old rubbish you'll ever see !

Just enjoy them while they're here.
We, nor anybody else, will ever see their like again.
